2002 avy 1500 z71. Heading down the road today with a/c and cruise control on when out of know where the cruise control and a/c shut off at the exact same time as the battery warning light came on. Now I have no power to my 4x4 switches, my fan, cruise control, and gas, temp and gauge cluster lights are not working. Also have no gear readout(PRND321). any thoughts?

What condition is the battery in, is the alternator putting out, those would be the first things to check, Yes the way the systems went out is the ECM keeping the battery power left to keep the engine running.

battery is only a few months old and both that and the alt is testing great. truck is having no issues while driving and voltage is staying strong between 14-15. my first thought was to check both of those and sorry for not stating that i did already. could a single relay run all of those components combined? failing bcm?

I was on a trip a while back and my alternator went out without me noticing right away.

We were traveling during the day and not using the headlights, so the battery voltage hung in there for quite some time.

I had a fairly new battery in the truck and I was able to drive toward home close to 100 miles before the battery voltage dropped low enough that everything but the engine quit working.

The dash gauge cluster quit working and that was really my first clue that something was wrong.

Without the voltage gauge, I was not able to determine at what level of battery charge I had.

I have since added a basic digital voltage meter that plugs into the cig lighter to my travel tool kit.

The windows would not roll down and the a/c and the radio stopped working.

Finally, the battery voltage dropped to the point the engine's electronics could no longer function and the engine just died.

Luckily, we were fairly close to home and my brother in law came to the rescue.

He jumped the battery and got enough voltage in it to allow me to drive the rest of the way home.

I now carry a spare alternator in my travel tool tub, just in case.

The point of the story is to check the voltage output of your alternator.

If the alternator stops charging, your electronics will begin to drop off with the engine electronics being the last to quit.

voltage output of the alt when tested was reading 14.66 volts. windows, radio, tach, speedo, voltage and oil pressure gauges all working as normal. im confident that the battery and alt are working as they should be. even with a load tester they are running in normal range.

also forgot to mention that all fuses were tested and only 2 fuses inside the truck in the driver side cluster are not getting power to them. those are the cruise cntrl and the htr/ac fuses. the fuses are fine however im not getting power to them.

check underhood fuse panel
underside too for mice chewed wires?

Maybe ignition switch?

your first suggestion seems more likely of the 2 im thinking. everything runs normal and acts normal other than the mentioned stuff above for it to be an ignition switch. maybe i am wrong tho. im here for help so i will check whatever others might think it could be.

having some issues with my 02 avy and was told that it might be my resistors in my gauge cluster or the power capacitor. i know where the resistors are located but does anyone know where the power capacitor is and what it looks like? maybe even a part number?

What issues?
Who told you this?

Might be cheaper just to buy a new one from 2002 2500 as you get Tranny temp gage working when you plug it in for free.

Capt.Crunch told me this. and problems being that my fan controls, 4x4 switches and my cruise control have no power going to them. also no gas and temp gauge along with the battery light staying on constantly.

Doubt gage cluster is causing all that.

Check for ground wires, or mice chewed wires under hood fuse box.
Check for loose wires under fuse box and heck check for bad fuse box it happens.

Have alternator checked, battery cables etc...

Did you trace the wires from the inside fuse panel that are not getting power back to where they get power?

could be bad fuse or wire or relay or ECM or BCM or something that feed those circuits power that is bad.

Lets see if I can help ya. First thing, not all the fuses have power if the AV is not running especially the cruise control.

No idea what is a power capacitor is.

The cruise and a couple others don't have power but the fuses are good. Engine light came on but only for a small evap leak.

i also read that a failing voltage regulator could trigger the battery light and the ecm could shut off systems in the truck if this happens. could this be the issue? i think once i figure out why the battery light came on then that might resolve the other issues im having. at least im hoping it does.

Does the radio work? if it does not the fuse panel under the hood has a fuse that works the dash, radio and cruse and maybe the control side of the ac ( switch ). I had a short in the radio and I pulled the fuse for the radio under the hood and the dash no longer worked so I replaced the radio. My point is that thou the fuse may look fine visually but you may have corrosion of the wires or connectors.

Sounds like grounds, check the grounds under the truck right about where the door and fender would meet. Spin the nuts off, sand everything clean snug it all down and smear on some dielectric grease to stop future corrosion. I bought an 06 with every light in dash on and a bunch of codes. Found the grounds to be most of the problems. Without good grounds, power will find the next available path to ground which can be a lamp, gauge or something else and cause a lot of strange problems. I have been a Broadcast engineer for NBC for 25 years and am familiar with kind of misery.
