PLEASE HELP!

This is not AV related but I hope someone can help me. I have a 1997 Buick Regal GS that will start but wont stay running unless its past half throttle. I'm thinking tps? Is there anyway to troubleshoot without throwing parts at it? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an Oldsmobile a friend of mine had... we could drive it only if we kept our foot on the gas even while stopped. We took it over to Pep Boys and they did a diagnostic for $150. And it turns out it had something to do with the EGR valve if I remember correctly. I didn't go to the shop with them when they got it fixed, but thats what they said when they came back.
