Post Pics Of Your Avalanche!

What bed liner did you use on the clad, looks great. I bought an 2002 with 115,000 and needed to buy missing cladding.
Thanks. Maybe tmi but I used the rust-oleum rattle can bed liner spray. I used a total of fourteen cans getting a total of two coats. Two cases bought off Amazon and the other bought locally at an auto parts store.

The first coat was a medium light coat the the second was moderately heavy to get a more textured effect.

The cans were not easy to work with. About a third of the cans wouldn't spray upright and I had to hold the can sideways or upside-down to get the paint to spray. This and the wind made for a fun challenge.

Although I prepared the surface with a good acetone cleaning, some spots on the front of the running boards have worn through. It may be road debris or too thin of a coat, don't know, but I touched it up and it's been fine.

Total cost with tape, pape, plastic and paint was about 160$ I don't expect it to last more than a year but touch up is easy coming from a rattle can.

When it comes time to do it again,I will use a good two part.

what exactly do you mean by this? i assume you mean to part with the front of the truck aimed up hill, but why? what does that help with? (or prevent?)
Yes, the vehicle is prone to leaks inside the cabin if parked nose down. From all the reading and work I've done to rectify this, it is a design flaw that makes this the only bad thing about the avalanche but hey, nothing that a welder wouldn't fix. 😂

Mine doesn't and I have had it since new 2001....

Not sure if your info is correct - where is this design flaw leaking at?

Neither my 2003 or 2004 leak in a manner in which I need to take extra precautions when parking.

Both trucks have around 250K miles on them.

I have heard where some have felt the need to park nose down, but this is more likely due to a worn out or missing mid deck seal or something like that that needs addressing.

Not a design flaw, in the least.

This is my Avalanche 2003 Z71 with the 5.3 Vortex

Mine leaks at the midgate. The seal is soft and pliable and has no breaks or tears in it. The glass seal is also in good shape but still if I park nose down and it rains enough, she will have water under the rear seat area.
I've already ensured my drains are clear of any blockages and checked to the best of my ability for anything else which might cause it to leak like the sunroof drains etc.
I've read the posts about leaks when nose down and tried all the fixes I can think of and still she takes on water, so it's nose up for me.
I'm guessing the previous owner didn't know about it or care because the midgate hinges are surface rusted and so are the nuts holding them down. (when I get to the interior, they'll come out and get proper and painted)
Glad you guys don't share my troubles here as it's a real pain knowing you're bound to always park facing uphill.

I had searched for it on Google when I first noticed it and many people said their gate was leaking. Sometimes it was due to the drains being clogged either in the bed or sunroof but several had midgate leaks. Mine leaks on the corners of the midgate as if the bed drains are clogged but they're debris free. The seals on the gate are soft and supple without and deformity. I can live with it for now as I don't park nose down. Just find it odd.

I also cleaned out the drains. Seemed to help the situation.

Drains clean, weatherstripping soft and pliable with no folds or tears. Making me wonder if it was ever hit. No car fax info about accidents and I can't see any damage from underneath. Not a big issue yet though. Nose up.

I'm not sure if you have seen this video.

Perhaps it will give you something else to consider.

Thanks. Never saw that video and it gave me a few more things to check out.

It's an old one.

It would appear these things have been leaking for a long time.

Well, whenever you have so many sealing surfaces, it's inevitable to have problems. Most vehicles only have weatherstripping surfaces around the doors that have little variation in the seal and backed up with the sheet metal for structure. Th bed of this truck has numerous little seals and channels with panels that can have a little wiggle to them when sealed up . Regular cars have small chances to leak from bad installs, the avalanche therefore has an exponentially greater chance of suffering for m it ontop of general wear of the seals over time.

That narrator was probably having nightmares about the word "seal" for a week after that video. It's like every third word.
