I haven't gotten a really close look at them, but I've heard that the GM Window Vents tape onto the painted part of the doors around the edge of the window.

Has anyone had a need (on their AVy or older vehicle with same ones) to remove/replace them? What do you use to get them off? Are they easy to take off and replace back on later? Do they cause a fade line on the door where sun never touches that part of the paint?

How do you think they compare to the aftermarket ones made by Auto VentShade or WeatherTech?

You are correct, the GM ones stick to the paint.
I do not know about paint fade.

Do a search, this has been discussed before. Something about using heat and fishing line? Holding two ends of the line and pulling the line thru between the tape and the paint kind of like a cheese cutter?

Disclaimer, I have not tried this and I'm not trusting my memory on the procedure. Please do a search before trying.

Also, I have the weathertech visors and love em although they seem to look purple when looking through them in direct sunlight. They are easy to remove/replace especially when washing the Av.

I have used the normal AVS stick-on ventshades on my past 3 vehicles. I like the look, and the functionality of being able to leave your windows cracked. I've never had any problems with them coming loose or anything. It's just a matter of proper cleaning of the surface first.
If I would have know about the weathertech "channel" visors I would have gone with them though :6:

We installed the GM protection package on our AV, which included the adhesive window visors.

Steelhead has a set on his that actually sit inside the door frame and do not require any adhesive. They also are very easy to remove, if the need arrives.

Care to add anything Steel?

Hi Malcolm! My visors are the Weathertechs. They fit inside the channels very securely. They can be removed if necessary for cleaning without causing any damage. I am very happy with them and would buy them again without hesitation. They don't flap around or create any new wind noise. I have tested them into triple digit speeds without incident. If you use the search function, and go back say 250 days, you should find several threads about the various side window visors. You can see them on my truck by clicking on the photo link in my sig below.

Another vote for the Weathertecs. I have both the vent shades and the weathertecs on two vehicles. Do yourself a favor and go with the weathertecs. They are easy to take off, to clean them and the window. I had my AV limo tinted. No problem, I just popped the weathertecs out. The vent shades would have been a nightmare.
