Hey all

Just a quick question. I am considering getting an air intake
for my AV and I am wondering which one to buy. ???

I bought a K+N FIPK for my old Blazer and to tell
the truth i was not really impressed with what I
got. I broke the plastic installing it and had a heckuva
time getting a rubber gromet to fit it. Then I had to notch
and drill to get the intake to fit correctly. To make matters
worse the filter element itself was always falling off no
matter how much I tightened the screw. I really wish it
would have fit alot more like my stock airbox.

So I am considering getting a Volant they seem to be
about the same price range as a K+N.

Anyone have any experience with a Volant? What
do you like/dislike about it?

Thanks!!

you may want to search on this ...as there are many threads some old and some new which give members opinions etc etc...

Lots to read.....Good luck

I bought the one that is supposed to pick up air from the tow hook area, it was a total failure, not even the filter box fit without making mods, the tube from the hook area would not fit, and I figured that for about $400. I shouldn't have to mod the truck or the new parts. so I sent it back!

I am also using the Volant. It's well made and fit correctly without any modification. It did require a bit of "body English" to put into place though.

I don't know if anyone is still reading this thread by I went
and bought the volant for the truck. I installed it in about
30-45 min. It was a pretty easy install and I was happy
to see them using a GM gasket and reusing stock bolts..

Pretty good setup so far. Lets see how it holds up. :)

The Volant is a great product - I wish that it hadn't taken me 3 months to match it with my supercharger, but I am very pleased with the results - helps keep the intake cooler and quieter - yet flows well. ;D

I got a Volant...I like the performance...the install was straightforwared although I could only align 3 of the four screws in the bottom of the box. It does take some contorting to get the connector on the throttle body, but not too bad.

As far as less noise like the previous poster said...no way! It creates a much throatier intake sound than stock under 1/2 throttle push. Its not an issue for me, but the first thing my wife sadi when she drove it was "Whats wrong with the engine, what's that sound!?"

Sorry, I guess it is relative to the Whipple >:D and the open K&N that it replaced.

But it is certainly cooler. ;D

I had something similar happen to me when I was working on mr
old truck before I got the AV. I could only get 3 out of the 4 bolts to fit.

Then I was watching my fiance's father (whos like my mentor)
and he was putting in all the bolts in at one time with something.
I don't know what it was that this was the case. I think He may
have been changing out the stock radio in his son's car. Anyway
he puts all the bolts in at the same time. Just finger tighten them
all. All four bolts.

I ask: whats the deal? Why don't you put in one at a time? He looks at me and smiles. On aircraft (He was an aircraft mech for 30 years)
all of the panels are attached with A LOT of bolts. This is so that if something goes wrong the part won't fly off and hurt someone or cause more damage. Well if you tighten them as you go you get to
# 145 and then you just have like 10 more but you can't get them
to fit because the slight jarring it took to align the other 145 in their
holes cause you to miss the other 10 by a quarter of an inch missing the hole. So what do you do. Take wrench and take out the
145 bolts so that you can do it right. Then you start all 155 bolts all at the same time and tighten and this time it fits.

I think thats the case with your Volant box : the_fu. Take them out and start them all again figertight and try it. It worked for me.

I think that install went well and if I want some ram induction going on I have an attachment at the bottom...Anyone ever try this?

One of the members back in I believe W.Virginia added it. He said the gains, if any were negligible. Especially when you factor in the price of around $140.

Well, I tried that, the offset was nearly 3/8". Maybe the volant was designed for '02 and something small changed in '03. Or, maybe it has to do with the fact that my truck had the factory "ugraded" airbox. What year AV do you have that you were able to get all four in there -- mine is an '03 WBH. I am not worried about it, 3 should hold it fine in that location.

I also got the Volant and I love it.

I had the same issue with the bolts lining up. I initialy start with the box a little crooked. I put all four bolts in figer tight and as I tightened with the wrench, the box line it self up. All four are now in.

I also agree that the Volant made a deeper sound. I love it.

Has anyone changed/added a MAF sensor or a throttle body spacer with the Volant?

Just Curious,

Mine is an 2004 w/Cladding actually. I thought of it in reverse, with them being designed with 02s in mind. And from what people told
me mine is really close to an 03.

Yeah 3 bolts should hold fine I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. ;)

I liked how they used the stock bolts, btw and that they used a
gm gasket. I thought that was a nice touch. I had to do some creative bending to get it to fit but it fits a whole heckuva lot better
than what I went thru to get my K+N FipK on my old s10 installed.
:cautious:

As for the ram induction thats probably true about the gains. It
already has a pretty good setup so far, so I can see why it would
be negilible.
