I am not at home with my AV but am pondering a mod but need some info. Can anyone tell me the torque required to lower the spare tire. I could also use the torque required to lift the tire.

Any help is appreciated.

Hmmm... might someone be pondering a power spare tire hoist? >:D

Or perhaps you have thoughts of using the hoist to lift/lower something else, but if that were the case you'd probably be asking how much weight can it handle? ;D

I did not measure it, and it's been a while since I did it, but I don't remember it needing a lot of torque to lower it. Using the supplied wrench I think I was able to just spin it down using the side of my finger against the wrench. Raising it took more, but I think it was still a one handed operation to turn it (plus another had to keep the wrench from falling out.) I don't think it was until the last turn (which snugs the tire up under the frame) that I needed both hands to turn the wrench.

The good news is that there is already a lot of gearing in the winch so it doesn't take much effort... until the very end.

Less torque then could be applied with a tiny 1/4" drive socket that is for sure.....

I would say 2-5 ft lbs.....maybe as high as 10....but doubt it...

You are right SS. :0:

I had a list of people in mind that would respond to this but I did not expect the 2 of you to be the first.

Hoping to create an inexpensive kit for this.

Thank you both.
