Hey

I have a towing question. I need to tow a old cadillac deville
4 hours south to Savannah, GA. I have a z66 with a towing
package but I have 20 inch rims on it.

Can I still tow it or should I take off my rims and put my stock
17s on? I don't want to damage my 20s if I can help it. I am
afraid that towing it will put extra stress on the tires and or
rims. I have never towed anything btw.

What does everyone think?

Thanks

Aetatis.

I'd go back to stockers.

I doubt those 20s are load-rated for the added stress. You also are losing a LOT of sidewall to run them, correct? If nothing else, your ride quality is going to be very harsh for the tow.

Also you're considerably less likely to get improperly stopped, illegally searched, and intentionally framed by a racist GA State Trooper! >:D

LOL!

Aetatis, I'm no expert in this area (towing or ghetto rims ;)) but do you know the load capacity of the rims and the anticipated tongue weight? Sounds like a lot of trouble to change the wheels/tires out, but I guess that car and a trailer could be pretty heavy :cautious:

will the car be on a trailor or with a front bumper hitch thingy?

Check your big wheels and tires for load capacity in pounds per tire....and then compare to stock tires.....you should meet or exceed the stock tires.....

Good luck and how about a pic of this land yacht Caddy.....hehehe

My 305/50-20's are much better for towing than the stock tires. They have reinforced sidewalls, a max psi of 51 lbs., and can handle 3,000 lbs per tire. Much better than stock.

You need to check the specs from the manufacturer.

Anyone towed with Goodyear EagleIIs or Centerlines before?

Thanks

Aetatis.

Nice comment btw treehugger!

Edit 6:15pm
Update: centerlines are Load rated to 2200 lb. and the tires
are rated for 2400.

I just found that the weight of the cadillac seville is about
3,000 lbs. So I guess that is too much...

edit 9:45 pm
just figured it out. The truck puts 1500lbs on each tire. The tongue weight for the car and trailer is about 400lbs, which is 200lbs per rear tire. what does this confusion mean???

WE'RE GOOD TO GO!!
