Ram Air Hoods... For Av.

Instead of changing the entire intake system, why couldn't the hood openings be above the air filter box. ?The one on the pass. side could be functional and the one above the battery could be non-functional (but look functional. ?I know that this would take away from the "look", but it would cut down on the overall cost of the mod by keeping the intake in place. ?My $.02

The one we are looking at redirects both openings over to the filter box. You would be best off using a K&N FIPK or an Airaid to take advantage of it.

I attached a pic of the underside so you get an idea of what it looks like.

I'm really liking the way that looks. I'm very impressed. One thing that really catches my eyes are the way you kept the scoops square just like the body of the Avalanche. I have looked at the new line of full size trucks by chevy and I don't like the front with that square look and then you get the style with the wheel wells on the out side and they are round i just doesn't look right. Your doing a great job keep it up

Hi, I could be wrong here but I don't think so. When referring to functional vs. non-functional some of us were only asking that the scoops be 'open' with a screen across them. The idea was to push cool air over the engine. We were not all looking for the functional 'feeding' option. Although ???

I am with you on that - getting a ram air into the intake is more complicated than it is worth, I just want to to force more cooling through the top of the engine compartment - happens to be where the intercooler sits.

Ah, but they don't make them for the AV or the new style '03 HD hood - yet ;D

I think you need to call them gandolphxx.
I was flipping through some of the posts on the Dodge site and it sounds like these are very custom and individualized. I would be sure that one of those companies has a mold for the avalanche already made.

I was well on my way to buying a hood for my '00 silverado when I bought the AV ;D. After this hood becomes avaliable I might have to check into this also.
But I do like the idea of the nostrils being open with screens, opposed to just closed or tuneled to the airfilter.

How big of a deal would it be to make the openings functional, i.e., open with screens, and then make the channels to the air box "detachable"? Some form of channels, wouldn't have to be "air-tight" to the openings on the hood- could seal against with a gasket or something and bolt/unbolt to to bracing or buss under the hood. that would make it more functional for a greater number of people making more desirable.

Desire = Demand...

???

Many of us have, they just don't have them yet, and in some cases don't intend to - don't see the market.

I would imagine a talented person would be able to do this however I am not an artist. I would definetely ruin it. :6:

BIGred,

your friend has quite the talent...do you guys have plans on making camaroSS style hoods? maybe a better option for the cooling guys, than the ram air folk.

im sure alot of work goes into designing and making these hoods, but im sure your friend will also benefit to know that he owns this part of the market so far, and can make a killing if he had the manpower to offer other popular types of hoods like the traditional cowl, and ss styles.

just a thought... :0: BTW, (y) especially for your friend helping to further avalanche mods for us folks!!! ;D

from what i understand is the shop can only make these ram air style hoods... to much info on why made me dizzy... but he said... lets pop these out... and in about 3 to 4 months start working on a new hood design for the av. corvette style is what i brought up... and it will go to the boards. and the current hood is being worked on... still trying to make this thing breath... but the structure isn't stong enough.

the hood will come jet black ready to be sanded and primed/painted.

he may start taking pre-orders soon.

I just came across an interesting new accessory for those of us with Volant Cold Air Induction systems. I was surfing around volant's website last night looking for the part # of the cleaning kit, and came across this: "1500 Series air scoop". It is specifically made for our series volant system, and I think that it is related to the Ram air scoop for Dodges and Fords. The part #35853, I am currently trying to find out more info from volant and a price. I will get back once I know.

I spoke with Phil at Keystone Styling this morning. He told me that they have a functional Ram Air hood for the Av. They're machining up now for production and the hood should be available by early March. Pictures should be available in a few weeks but he told me that the hood will be fiberglass with 2 scoops that deliver air to an open type FIPK. The scoops are recessed into the hood and are different from any other truck designs. ?;D

Will it still be Ram Air or Air Induction? I have seen hoods on some sportcars that had the holes in the front of the hood but instead of being raised they were sunken. I think this type of hood would look awesome on the Ave.

James, I have one of these scoops andI MHO it is not worth the money...me and Steelheadchaser talked about this in the Volant thread several months ago...the bang for the buck just isn't there....cost about 130.00 take that 130 and do another Mod, just my .02-Bubba

Phil told me Ram Air , the scoops will channel to the open box style FIPK. He said that the K&N style would work but would have to be modded due to the height of the box.
I wonder if you could mod it to not do the FIPK thing and just have it dump air in over the engine ???
