Anyone ever looked into getting a ram hood for their 2500, Ive been trying to find one with the cold air duct on it and have found just two, however they are fiberglass and I would really like to stick to Steel. If not a new hood, any mods to add a scoop with ducting for my cold air intake?

I didn't have a 2500 but bought a GoodHood fiberglass one many years back and loved it. There were some fitment issues that got addressed during the painting process.

For a steel hood, you might need to make your own....might try looking at summit racing and see if they have some kits you could piece together something like a VaraRam tube system with a stamped form hood

well how bout that, that was the exact hood I have been looking at wondering if there was a way to mod it into an actual hood with an intake.

if i could get this in a steel frame that would be fantastic lol. Thats what I really want to do, I will keep looking and go over your suggestions. I have spend some research on summitracing (assuming thats what you meant lol) and see what I can come up with

I think you would have to look at the dif intake ram air tubes are out there to see what could work. It's going to be a 1-off build and you might have to bite the bullet and buy them to see what would work.

...and yes, summitracing is what I meant lol

I put this one on mine many years ago, mounts where the tow hook opening is and lowers the inlet temp while in motion and while sittting... I put rubber flaps hinged at the top over the opening in the stock air box where the air comes in from the fender so in the event my truck is in more than 24 inches of water (never happen) it will pull air from the fender again. Works great

I have a airade open box atm, solid bottom however, u think I could just cut a hole and mount that volant in? Or do you think it would be even necessary with an open cold air intake box? I wouldnt mind more air, these 8.1's love air so lol

I cut a hole in the bottom of the stock air box with hole saw slightly smaller than the OD of the hose and pushed it up through the hole. You also have to cut a hole in the mounting bracket under the air box, I removed it so I could repaint it. I put leftover insulation/sound deadener from my stereo upgrade to reduce engine compartment heat around the bottom of half of the air box, overkill but why not I had the insulation..

I used the Torque app on my phone to watch the intake temps between OA temp and intake temp at the MAS. The Delta would be 10, 15 and sometimes 40 or more degrees higher at the MAS than the OA temp, especially sitting at a stop light. After it comes within one degree of the OA temp when moving. Even sitting it will still go up but not as much as it used to.

I also got rid of the crappy push pins and mounted the box to the bracket with Rivnuts, much more solid. The push pins were always loose and hard to get lined up. Makes it really easy to remove and clean out when cleaning the air filter. You will also need to clean the air filter more often because of the ram air coming up the tube. I run a K&N so I don't have to clean it to often, every 15,000 miles of so. I just did it a few weeks ago and was pleased at how well the K&N filters. The top of the air box, MAS and intake tube were spotless and there was only a little bit of grime on the TB that came from the port that goes to intake valley.. I hadn't cleaned the MAS, intake tube or TB in at least 50,000 miles.

thanks for the info, i will def take a look at that. Do you ever have any issues with water or anything of the sort coming up through the vent. I live up here in idaho and the weather gets real crappy in the winter time as well I do hunting etc in the mountains so water might be an issue, im not sure?

Never.. It has a small hole in the back so if any water collects inside it can drain out. My truck is lifted to the tow hook opening where the intake is mounted is 24 inches off the ground. I 4 wheel a little bit but not hard core and have never crossed a river or anything deep enough to have water even get close to the intake even though there are haters out there in doing this mod say it could happen (it can't) or that the ram/cold outside air is not beneficial.

I would not run a paper filter though because it will have the damp air coming into it and be forced right into it, the filter will get dirtier sooner... Like I said I use the K&N and clean it every 15k-20k or when the light is hard to see thought it..

ok, I have the airaid and just got done cleaning it and oiling it so. Only other real question I have is any experience with fiberglass hoods - aftermarket, I would love to have the design I posted above
however i read alot about fiberglass not doing as well as steel, beside the obvious reasons it being lighter and flimsier, any reasons why fiberglass would not be recommended?

I loved mine from Keystone Goodhood and had no issues with it being flimsier than the OEM.

Good thread here:

thats a wicked hood....and I looked all morning for that online with no luck. Im not sure if keystone goodhood is no more but cant seem to find that hood regardless....

Yeah, not sure either TBH I got my through a group buy. Absolutely loved the aggressive look this hood gave my AV. Some of the members even ran their NOS purge lines out the snout and backlit with LEDs

take a look here for what I was able to find:

I like that hood and it's functional. I like the cowl hood look better but finding one for a 2002 is almost impossible..

aaaand I just had a heart attack lol. The painted one shows still available, I can live with my stock hood for the 1600 bucks lol, not including shipping :(. Still on my list, just cant get past the fiberglass hood part, I love steel hoods, proven to work for sure, just cant believe they dont make a steel functional ram hood out there for the avalanche.

Just looking to get a nice hood but hoping for some function on the air duct, but the more I read into it I realize theres really not alot of performance airwise at high speeds, might just wait to find a steel hood that has that nicer look to it is all.
If I had the balls to do it Id cut the air manifold in half and open that bad boy up and get a larger intake like 80+mm lol buuuut thats beyond my abilities of what Id like to do over what could turn into a disaster :)

Not sure that hood is correct for you.
Your signature says you have a 2500. All 2500 Avs were cladded.
That hood is for a WHB. I think they mean WBH, which means without body hardware.
WBH Avs were made 2003-2006.
Cladded Avs were made 2002-2006. Amerihood does not offer a hood for 2002.
Cladded and WBH are different hoods.
Please double check and let me know if I am wrong.

checked with amerihood and they told me it doesnt matter on the cladding when it comes to the hood, the hoods were the same on the 2005 avalanches with or without the cladding, hence the cladding has nothing to do with the hood, straight from the amerihoods mouth, so hopefully they are correct

the side profile of the "cladded" headlights looks to sweep farther back at the top, where the WBH model headlights seem to sit more vertical and don't sweep to the rear as much at the top. looks like if there will be an issue, it'll be the front lip of the hood.

hopefully the new hood fits, i'm looking forward to seeing it installed.

I'd make sure they have a good refund policy and pay for return shipping if it doesn't fit.
