The last thread has gotten so big that it's taking to long to parse replies on the end of it - so this is a continuation of that thread...

Chief ,

Thanks for the compliment on the picture. How did you know it was morning? I took it about 8:30 am yesterday. It was a bit overcast but the water looked so good. My wife thinks I'm crazy walking around with the digital waiting for the "right" setting for a pic.

Thanks Chief! That's the help I was needing....I'm obviously not a good photographer. I'm taking the beast to Gatlinburg, Tenn this weekend so I'll take your advice and try some more shots up there.

I was a travel writer for almost three years and have a library of thousands of outdoor pics. The best lighting is in the early AM or the late PM - daytime pictures tend to appear over exposed or hazy unless you use natural barriers to cut down on the light.

(actually - I'm part of the CIA - and we've been watching you... >:D)

Just wanted to campaign this image again, and point out the club sticker on the rear window. >:D ;D

SPORK001.jpg

clipped it down so it fit in the forum box.

Sorry spork - I missed that one - but if I remember it was in - good choice of back ground to Avalanche contrast...

Hey Chief, how about this one??

I finally got my digital camera back from the shop.

Another close but no cigar. Couple of issues AJ:

1) The muddy look is great! However I can tell you've been in deep mud as your front license plate is bent up. Loose the plate.

2) I love the American flag. I love America. It just doesn't work in that picture.

3) Here is the biggest issue of all. If you look closely at the picture you've done an excellent job of picking good light - appears to be evening light (which has a bit of an orangy glow to it compared to morning light which just appears to be soft). However you're shooting INTO the sun, not with the sun to your back. Look at the hood especially - the reflection of the sun on it has over exposed the shot - also along the background on the right hand side.

If you had taken that exact same shot with the sun from behind and the front plate off - even if the American flag it would have had a good shot at the top 20. So with that said - get back out there and snap some more pics!!!

Fantastic criticism, Chief. I will get out there again tommorow. I got my new Flag bowtie and billet grille delivered today, so maybe I'll do those mods first, and hit the mud again. And, if I have a flag bowtie, I can loose the flag on the door!

Also, btw, the front plate is bent from the "pond incident" - I never really fixed it up. I've ordered some vanity plates, so I don't think I'll bother fixing this one.

Thanks for the crit!

Hey Chief

Did any of my action shots from last weekend make the cut? Page 13 of : Reader's Rides Screen Saver

I am heading up this weekend and could take additional shots if required. >:D

Take some more - got some good shots. Going to be hard without some really good equipment to get close enough to get resolution and not get covered in mud at the same time.

You do have some awesome pictures. BTW - because we can host Real Video on the site if you get any video - I'd be thrilled to put it up. You could send it to me as QT, AVI, WiMP, MPEG, and I can re-encode...

Hey Chief, some crit on my shots from page 11 would be wonderful if you wouldn't mind! The lighting was much better on my first shot (one already on the list) but was hoping to get a satisfactory shot with the new tires... it looks SO much meaner with them! >:D

and you guys wonder why I have never posted glamor pix of my Av! Waaaay too much pressure! Not that I don't think we all benefit from constructive critisism. I just don't think my photos would ever measure up - incorrect lighting, background, time of day, angle, perhaps a bent trailer plug here or there >:D

I love her and that's all that matters, even if she never makes the cover of Cosmalanche or Maximalanche!

Your Av DOES look great with those tires:

1) Shot One - in

2) Shot Two - taken during the middle of the day - good contrast but it is still over exposed (you're using a very good camera though)

3) Shot Three - get rid of that darn Ford in the background and it would be perfect. If you have it larger than 800 X 600 on your camera I could probably crop the Ford out. I'd love to have that picture in the screen saver.

4) Another really good shot, looks like a late afternoon one. Too much light on the hood though - similar issue to the picture I provided feedback on above - if it was taken at a different angle so that you weren't kind of shooting INTO the sun - it would have been a keeper.

All in all four excellent shots - again on image two if you have a large version (1600 X 1200) I probably could crop the Ford out...

Thanks for the input Chief! I read a pretty good amount of literature and articles before choosing a digital camera and glad to know I picked a decent one.

btw it's an Olympus 510 Zoom.

Here are the larger versions of the two you really like (1600x1200). I love the water shot too, so if you can crop the f*rd out, that would be awesome!

Climbing Boulder 1600x1200

River Crossing 1600x1200

If it makes you feel any better about that f*rd ruining the shot, he broke a front hub later that day and buried his rear axle in the river... leading to this pic ;D He's actually a really good friend of mine and I've been giving him sh*t about it every day since!! >:D

Pulling out the Trash

Hey, Chief... How's this shot?

I couldn't get the sunset sun, cause I had a date. ;-)

But, I used a polarizer to bring out the sky more.

I also put on my new grille and bowtie, lost the flag and the plate.

Hey AJ - the use of a polarizer really shows - you can see inside the cab of your Av!

How big is the image - the background is blah but if I can crop it up - that would be a good one (that is take say a 1600 X 1200 and make an 800 X 600 out of it.

Let me know. I think I'm going to lift the drawbridge for more picks on Tuesday or Wednesday this week.

I have it in 2048 x 1536. Get it here.

I'm going golfing today in the countryside. I'm gonna try to find some nice background for my muddy Beast.
