Wow! Lots of pictures. It took me over an hour to go through all of them. After much deliberation I've picked my list of winners. Special congrats go out to Blueruck, Crexis, goo929, and A.J. for having multiple pictures selected.

BTW - the screen saver is not quite done. We don't have ANY pictures of a WHITE Avalanche.

So if anyone has some great pics of a white Avalanche that meets all of the requirements (no street, house, garage shots, etc. etc. etc.) then tack it on for a late entry.

Now you may be sitting there scratching your head going, "why didn't the Chief pick my picture?"

Here are the reasons pictures won't selected in order:

1) Poor focus or image quality. Picture is pixelated, out of focus, or doesn't have good color composition. This is likely caused by the camera itself, the camera was moved when the image was taken, or due lighting.

2) Poor lighting conditions - mostly OVER exposed. Yes a few were bumped for too much light but many were bumped because they were over exposed. Just too much light. In some cases the Avalanche looked great but the background was bled out. In other cases there was so much light reflecting off of the Avalanche it blurred the image.

3) Background problems. There were some great shots I had to nix because the background just wasn't all that scenic, or in a handful of pictures had houses, garages, fences, etc. in the background.

4) Submitted multiple pictures and I've got a different opinion on which one is the best. Hey, it just comes down to taste - some of them were REALLY hard. Crexis is a great example. He has a fantastic shot of a rock crawling Avalanche BUT it is slightly under exposed. Had this been Crexis' only shot, it might have been in the screen saver - but he submitted a much better river crossing shot in the same batch (even if it has an old Ford in the background).

So with all that said - here is the list of pictures and winners. Congrats to all and be watching for the screen saver!

Cool. Thanks Chief. A lot of nice trucks out there. You had tuff job. I can't wait to see them all strolling accross the screen.

All though you better put mine over in the Pewter column, she not black >:D

ps My neighbor is out of town, he has a white AV. If I drag his truck out of his garage, down the hill into the Kink river. Then the take a picture, that you like. Do I have to share credit with him?

When I first read this, I thought that my Padre Island backup pic that I submitted as a last resort had been selected. ?I never thought that any of my "charity" photos were in the running!

I have to go back and check to see if someone submitted one without me knowing. ?I tell you ... sometimes these guys ?

I guess I better get them setup as one of our new partners. ?Let me see what kind of club discount deal I can get from them ?>:D

Chief

I think this was one of the most exciting threads I have seen.

Maybe you shoud send the screen saver to the General - lol

Look forward to loading up the new screen saver ;D

Congrats to all of the winners...

I am going to send my screen saver to come on after 1 min, so I can see all of the great truck pic's :0:

Hey Chief:

I had a question about the screensaver, and here is as good a place to ask it.

I think you said once that the final result would be 800x600--why? You've been asking for high-resolution images (I know for cutting, cropping, re-centering, etc.), but almost no ones screen is 800x600 anymore. And a 800x600 screen saver looks kind of dinky on my 1600x1200 screen. Heck, even my wife's 15" flat-panel is 1024x768. So any chance that you could make a hi-res screen saver too? Or at least a medium-resolution one?

Thanks,
Brendan

800 X 600 is the optimal image size for the screen saver engine I'm using. On a percentage basis - 800 X 600 is the number on screen resolution (honest) - that's what this site is optimized for too. The software will still show full screen at any resolution if specified - so it will just stretch the image. The final product won't use JPEG's anyway and the images scale very well.

Trust me, the Chief knows what he is doing...

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured--I was going to suppose that in my post, but I forgot.

Not to turn this thread into a technical discussion, but I don't understand what that comment is saying at all. "On a percentage basis"? Yeah, I know most websites are optimized for 800x600...

Okay--I've seen some do-it-yourself screensavers that either didn't scale at all (leaving a tiny pic in the middle of my screen) or scaled so horribly, that the photo was obviously scaled up from who knows what and had all kinds of obviously interpolated pixels. I end up just junking these "products". If you say the images will scale well, I'll trust you (for now :) ) and wait and see.

I always laugh at the scifi shows (Star Trek especially) when Captain Zooms-a-Lot says "Enlarge and enhance"--this is pure "Make information from where there is none" trickery--which has no scientific basis.

Sorry, got too carried away with my college Computer Graphics flashbacks.

Good work, Chief.

Brendan

:7: :7: :7:

I tried to get a white one in the bunch but had no luck. I need a digital camera bad!!! Maybe next time though...Congrats and great job to those who made it. Can't wait to download the finished product!!

Will try to find 4Xfun, he just got back from Honduras scuba diving,,,,,,,,,,,must be nice. He has a white Z71 and i know he did some wyoming hunting this year and tore off his tail light connections going through some rockbeds and streams, maybe he has some photo's?????

I would like to thank the academy for this lovely award... you like me, you really like....

Ok, it had to be done.... no throwing rotten food.... thanks.

I am surprised that mine was the only SOM that made the cut (come to think of it, I don't recall seeing any other SOM pictures).... I think it was the club stickers that did the trick.

anywho.... Chief, (notice how I tend to spell chief correctly ;D ) if you need a better jpg image to work with, I can supply you with the original.

Yes - if anyone wants to e-mail me or point me to high resolution originals in excess of 800 X 600 please feel free to do so. I'll gladly put them to use...

not at anyone. I have just noticed that many people have misspelled it lately... not that I am a great speller myself.

I guess you would have the same problem with "Special Onyx Black"

Spork ... don't be acting up again. I guess the last spanking didn't take ... j/k ;D

I'm reminded of the Snickers commercial where the guy is meticulously painting the end zone on a football field in Kansas City... One of the players jogs by and says, "That looks great... but who are the Chefs?"
