Rear Bumper Beverage Holders

G

got_change

GUEST
I,m putting "beverage" can holders in the rear bumper on the flat above the corner steps. They clear with the tailgate down, and will be handy when waxing and working on got change Ive got to drill straight down for the flush mount can holders from a boat. Has anybody punched a hole in this area? Is there steel there ?

Drill into your bumper above the corner steps for a cup holder?

I would just wax with the tailgate down and use the built-in cup holders there if I REALLY couldn't find a place to place a cool one ;D

goo929

ps - IMO ... I haven't done it yet though

Since I think you are serious about this ...

What exactly do these cup holders look like. Do you have a picture or website?

Thanks,

goo929

hey goo929 at least i wont spill one lifting the tailgate almost every bowrider boat has can holders in it they are about 8 bucks each and come in black or tan. I hate to set a can somwhere and knock it over with the garden hose or whatever. I only will cut a hole in my av to make a mod my way. I just put a stylin concepts roll pan exhaust splitter right thru the rear fender and cladding and had to cut thru the cladding, inner and outer fenders to slip it in but it looks factory and you cant see the ugly exhaust pipe from behind anymore I'm making mods as I go and have many more in mind

I'd love to see some photos, Got_Change!

Why wont some people just leave their truck alone?

I can understand adding a bug shield or some
billet, even those neon sets!!

But ...
Will you agree with me that filling your rear bumper with 5 inch holes is a bit too much.

Next time anyone feels like installing a satellite dish thru the sunroof or a cuisinart on the dashboard, try
building a playground for the kids instead, or just save the $ for fuel money!!! THE AVALANCHE IS A BEAUTY JUST AS IT IS!!!

Like Billy Joel said..?I love you just the way you are!!!?.

Hey XM Radio requires a satellite receiver through the roof!

"Chief"

Probably going to cave in and get XM this weekend...

My next mod is a cement mixer built into the saddle bag storage compartment.

I may also contemplate a front end wind turbine to power my rear seat big screen TV entertainment system and fake fireplace.

Last night I welded my tailgate shut and now have a 4-person hot tub in back.... (Hmmmm... just though about the midgate...) Anyone for a party? Now if I can just figure where to put the cupholders so I can reach them without spilling any of the water! ;D

Hmm ... where did you get this idea? ?I am using only the back two cargo panel area for my hot tub. ?I installed a counter with built-in cup holders over my sub enclosure to put our drinks (hooters girls love their drinks shaken not stirred). ?Our supply of champagne and "top shelf" liquors are still stocked in the ice-filled storage bins ?>:D

The drilling wasn't too extreme for this must-have MOD.

goo929

ps - wonder if you guys know when i am kidding. i mean really ... ice in the strorage bins? ;D
?

TO GOO929 I tried to download some pictures of my exhaust splitter and some other stuff and frugged up the camera steelhead chaser and irontrain want to see the exhaust but i wont be able to get any online for a bit if it came thru and you want to pop it on the screen i bet some avy owners would go for the set up. I ,m still goin for the " beverage" holders and another digicam to send out some more mod ideas like the back up lights I,m slipping into the back edge of the bumper step cut outs yep right next to the can holders. you know what I,ve noticed 90% or more people never notice anything someone does. my mods are for me, but I like to share them my av club name got change should be changes!

Hey Doc, what can I say, a hobby is a hobby, for you a playground, for me a supercharger.
As the Doormouse said "feed your head" - Jefferson Airplane - I am old enough to have met them. ;D

this old post wont die, I have modded this mod, by slipping coolie cups inside the rear bumper, to keep the beverages colder.

now since it is the holidays, I was trying to figure out how to enlarge them for the holiday, drink, of choice.

heck, maybe not this big of hole thru clad, this time, just a thought, and a pix of 5 months of use,of rear bumper beverage holder, as originally installed.

happy new year,...avrs....got change

5 months for a mod to get put in, I was working on the rear bumper light idea back in july, and just now got them in, and posted, for you clad cutters!!!

i had to read my own post,on this topic, to advise myself, on getting the mod installed, the 100 watt backup lights,in rear bumper step, get used about two or three times a day!!! ( 1 mod leads to another )

the modders creed!!!!

Just did the beverage holder mod. turned out great!

Was it that simple to drill a hole then drop the holders in? I thought there might be a piece of metal underneath. Kind of like the rear steps lights mod, there's a piece of metal there.

nope no metal under this spot, only have to drill throught the plastic cladding.

I haver been wanting to do this mod, and relocate the trailer plug into the bumper, just scared of having a runaway holesaw, and running my paint and cladding.

I know I should not be worried, hell I work construction.... just different drilling into a truck I have invested this much money into, then something someone else bought...LOL

Grey_Av

I belive that got_change had posted a pic in another thread, top view.. cup holder not installed yet, showing the hole and that there is nothing but cladding to drill through.... search and ye shall find...

It's an easy five minute mod, just get the cup holders from a boat supply place for about 5 bucks a piece, turn the cup holder upside down onto the bumper and trace around, then take the roto-zip or dremel and cut.(just remember to cut inside the line so the cup holder will be tight)

well today I finally did it, drilled 2 holes in my rear cladding for the cup holders....

I may end up making a template that you can lay on the rear cladding to take with me to Laughlin in case anyone up there wants to do this mod, will save time measuring.

Grey

Edit:

Ok I got a pic online now... excuse the ditry truck and cladding, will be cleaning my truck tomorrow and trying out the GM Cladding Cleaner the dealer gave me today (freebie)

yeah, I put a small bead of silicone around the bottom of the lip, it is a tight fit, so if you put too much silicone on it will squirt out all over the cladding..... this will keep it from flying out at 98mph on the way to GTG's >:D

Thanks Grey AV,

Do you know if there are white cup holders? Also, does the cup have holes in the bottom for drainage? That sounds like a dumb ? but you never know. Where does it drain onto? I have the bumper light mode and wondered if it effected that.

Thanks, Fireeater
