Rear Bumper Damage - Only 3 Weeks Old

I have a 3 week old 2003 and I damaged the rear bumper today. ? I tapped a pillar at work while backing up. I creased the bumper and am curious to see what the prices would be and which parts would be needed to repair the damage.

Here is a pic that Jackalanche had of his rear bumper damage. My damage is on the passenger side rear but almost exactly where his damage is.

Can I do this myself, by just buying the parts (metal bumper and plastic cladded bumper??

Sorry to hear about bumper. I did the same thing. Do a search and you will find what you are looking for. I removed mine and heated it up, then hammered out some of the dent out. Once you take out the dent the cladding will looking better. The metal bumper is about $500 and the cladding is about $300.

Ipaid 282.00 for new rear bumper through gm and to replace your self is fairly easy the hard part is trying to get the spare tire key slot out is somewhat of a challenge and looks like gm made it that way so the spare tire couldn't be stolen but the bumper actually snaps in place goodluck !

170.00 rear bumper cladding
104.00 rear brackets - 4 pieces

There goes my Xmas mod budget

Now to find the directions for taking the "sad" bumper off.

Hi,

Sorry to re-open old wounds. I looked at the picture and could not see the damage. I have a problem with my av that someone backed into it and put a small (about 1.0" scratch in the drivers' side of the bumper. But also what they did was push in the drivers side so the cladding is almost touching the rear cladding. I looked underneath and it appears the rear brackets just may be bent. I may just replace those if you have a part # and see how it goes. Is this some thing I can do by replacing one side at a time without removing the whole bumper. Is my problem similar to your and therefore should comtemplate a new rear bumper?

hi. since that's my truck GMAN posted a photo of, I can explain (normally I am proud when someone posts a pic of my Av, but when it is for the purposes of illustrating damage, well . . . .)

you will notice some sort of damage to the cladding just to the left of the license plate. In fact, I backed into a concrete corner so hard that I bent the bumper itself, so that the cladding is about 1" closer to the sheet metal on the left side of the bumper than on the right side.

Sadly, this is still the case as I have not yet fixed it - I have to buy a bracket at least, as well as the bumper cover. I need to pull the bumper cover off to really assess the damage. You should do likewise; it may be that you just need a bracket on one side, but from experience on other vehicles it almost never stops there - the bumper bar itself would also likely have been bent, at least enough so that when you put a new bracket on there, the old (bent) bumper will not line up with the holes, etc in the bracket. I have a parts # sheet at home for the AV, I will try to look these up and post them for you/us.
