Rear window Glass midgate Storage Holders handles broke

Awesome, thanks. One side is better than none. I've been running with just one side for a year or two now. I thought about buying both sides when the first one broke figuring if one broke, the other certainly would too. I just never got around to it and now find myself in a lurch.

:woot:I found another site that has the right side in same color. I ordered two rights and two lefts. If I plan to keep this for another 20 years, which I hope to to, I'm sure I'll need to replace them again down the road.

Well friggle frack - just got the following email regarding one side.

The status of your order has changed and we wanted to keep you up to date:

Sorry to inform you but this part has been discontinued. your payment will be refunded. thanks

Guess I'll have to keep searching.

Good luck with your search, I've had no luck getting them off without breaking them when I visit the pick a part places

Thanks, yeah that's why I'm looking for new. My daughter has access to a 3D printer. I wonder if she has access to a scanner to and, if I can actually find them, scan them so we can print it later.

She could make a few bucks, if you still have the spring and other parts. LOL.

Well double friggle frack! I just got the cancellation notice for the other side. Anybody come up a rigged method to secure the glass. I'm not going to waste my time looking in a junk yard because I know I'll break the blasted things trying to get them off. :E::needhug:

3d print one maybe?

Just needs to be able to draw it in 3d... which can be done from broken part maybe if it can be held together sort of..

Can you snap a pic or two of what you’re working with? Not sure if your truck is the same as mine. I’m usually pretty good at coming up with a work around.

The window locks are the same between all years of both Avalanche and EXT's.

It may be important to note that the left and right side locks are slightly different.

As previously mentioned, I had to modify one of the ones I bought so it would work.

A little careful trimming with a Dremel did the trick.

Or, at least good enough that it would work for me.

I also think some careful work with a pick might get one of them off without destroying the thing.

I spent a lot of time looking for a replacement and couldn't find one. They are discontinued. If you can find one in a wrecking yard you must carefully pull out the wire clip from underneath to remove it. With the latch in the open position you can see it from underneath.

I repaired mine.Retainer.JPG

I obtained the brass tubing from Amazon:

The ID is perfect with a little grease. I mistakenly drilled out the old hole in the bracket too big so I had to use extra JB Weld to bond it in. It works good. Be careful to:
1. Measure and locate the wire clip slots in the original positions. I put the slots in before I bonded the brass tube into the old bracket.
2. Drill the latch perpendicular to the face. I used a drill press. The new tube goes almost all the way to the face of the bracket.
3. Put the clip on from the bottom of the latch so it is accessible after assembly to the mid-gate.

Good luck!

One of the round handles that hold the window secure when stowed on the midgate has broken on my AV.
The barrel of the round handle has slot cut in it for the retaining clip and it snapped at the slot.
My friend at the Chevy dealer says they have to replace the whole trim panel on the midgate since Chevy doesnt offer the part seperate.
Anyone else break a handle ?
I have an 03 and both of the handles broke and fell off in 2010 after I moved. I think the weight of the boxes compressed the midgate so much that it broke the sleeve that goes around the spindle. Nothing to attach back to the spindle.
