Since the day we were driving home from the dealer after picking up our new Av., I've noticed a faint rattle coming from the back window over bumps. When I applied pressure to either side on the top edge, the noise stopped. Making sure that it wasn't just loose or not completely in place, I removed it and then put it back in, making sure that everything was correctly in place. I thought it worked for a few minutes there after driving it again, but then the noise came back.

On Sunday, I completely removed it again to check for any cracks in the trim or anything and noticed that there was drops of water along the bottom edge of the trim. It had poured the night before, but is this normal? It wasn't a lot of water but just some small drops along the bottom edge.

Anyone else have this rattle? I'm an expert on car rattles, learning a lot from our 300M rattletrap. But, I'm not sure what's causing this noise and if I can fix it myself or what? Any ideas? ???

Are you sure that it's the window that's rattling and not the midgate? The midgate (like the tailgate) requires a good slam to be sure it's completely latched. A partially latched midgate will not only rattle - it will leak!

Yes, I'm sure it's the window. I've used the Midgate once or twice and know all about having to give it a good slam to fully close and latch it. Like I said, if you apply pressure to the top of the window, the noise stops. Everything feels and looks completely tight, but there must be a slight space allowing it to move somewhere.

The window sits in a rubber trough, so the only logical place it could be a source of rattling with be at the 2 clips that lock it down. The water in the trough is normal, as long as it has not entered the cab. In other words, if you pulled the window out, and saw some water in the trough itself, its no problem. If you saw water inside on the bottom of the window before you pulled it, then it is a problem. I would guess the rattle is coming from a plastic panel in the area of the window, since they are all secured by clips into the body. Just a thought.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I think the rattle is coming from either one or both of the top latches because when I press on that area, the noise stops.

Tonight, I noticed this noise was particularly constant with even the slightest crack in the road. I think when I get a chance, I'm going to take the window out and then lower the Midgate, before "slamming" it back into place to make sure it's completely locked tight, and then putting the window back in. If that doesn't work, I'll figure out something with the latches, before going to the dealer.

I have the same rattle in my AVA. The dealer sparyed some lub in the latches and it went away for about a day and then came back. The truck is going back to the dealer tomorrow, they ordered new latches. Will let you know if it fixes the problem

jmg3- That's exactly what ours sounds like. I've been trying to think of a way to do something to elminate the noise. I don't know if it's been rattling lately, but a trip to the dealer might be required sometime.

Keep me posted.

Well, got the new latches put in and no more noises from the rear window. So I guess the new latches are the way to go. Let's just see how long they last. I already have 17,000 miles on my truck, I have #2 sold in NJ from June of last year. I know I drive to many miles, but there shouldn't be any excuse for rear window latches making noise. So the new latches fixed the prob, let me know if it helps your problem.
