Well last night comming home in the rain, traffic was stop and go on the freeway, I had come to a stop and blam !!!! Tore my hands right off the wheel. :8:
I pulled over and jumped out , just as the Nissan truck was pulling up behind me. The front of his truck was totally crushed... grill, hood, headlights, both front fenders and the bumper.... His bumper was in the shape of a V.... Then I cringed as I looked at my baby, then I looked again..... Nothing ! No dammage at all that I could see in the rain at dusk. We exchanged info... of course he had no Ins. and smelled like he worked at a tequella bottling plant. :7: Anway I looked at it again this morning in the light and there are 4 tiny nicks in the rear bumper, the biggest one being less than 1/2 inch. All in all I think this thing held up extremely well . I guess he pretty much just chewed on my hitch reciever !

MXRACER,

Sorry to hear that your AV was hit. Hope that you & your AV are ok.
AV built like a rock.
I bet the Nissan owner is thinking of how well the AV stood up. Maybe this person will buy an AV. ?

I bet there is damage underneath that you cannot see. I would report it.

. . . and you should have it checked for subframe damage too.

The Nissan truck that hit me wasnt a new one.... I think it was about a 90 or 91... I think they are much tougher now... Thats what I had before my Av. An 01 Frontier.

Back in July my 02 AV was sandwiched between two A-holes. Front A-hole stopped in left lane of a highway waiting to make her Illegal U-turn with her over-loaded nissan P/U. I stopped and about 30 seconds later a 02 Honda Accord drove into the back of me like I was invisible. He went to the hospital and the Accord probably went to bone yard. My hitch ripped through all the way to the windshield. Was pissed me off the most was I had my APS camera with me but did not take any pics. I had bent bumper brackets and scuffed bumper and mangled Waag bumper gaurd. The impact sent me into the A-Hole in front and my Waag front runner got mangled but AV un hurt. If I was in my 96 Impala I am sure it would have been totaled.

Sounds like you broke lucky. My guess is he stood on the brake, the nose on the Nissan dove and hit you not on the bumper but square on the trailer hitch, which is built like a brick poop house. The hitch, attached to the frame transfered the impact through your entire Avalanche while the bumper or worse took the impact on the Nissan. The result, only some light cladding damage for you and their front end totally caved in.

You were a VERY good sport for not calling the cops. Personally if I though he was DUI - I would have called for a LEO ASAP...especially with no insurance.
