Does anybody know if I can get the factory backup camera aftermarket?  I like the way it fits into the tailgate below the handle.  Can I replace the plastic there with one that has the camera already installed or do I have to cut a hole in mine?

Any suggestions on other aftermarket cameras and how/where you mounted them would be appreciated.  I would love to be able to hook up a trailer by myself as well as have good peripheral vision.

Thanks,

Virgil

First of all WELCOME!!!  :welcome:

love your handle  :D

if you work through a few threads on this page you'll find tons of suggestions, installations tips and vendors....

There are a couple site partners with systems that are very popular as well as what's needed to install a factory or aftermarket system.

this should help:

From what I've been reading around the boards, the factory camera, if you can get it, requires a core swap, so GM is basically only replacing broken or damaged ones. This may change as parts become more readily available.

I also asked and was told that the factory camera does not use a standard RCA cable/jack, and most of the aftermarket headunits seem to have an RCA jack for camera input, so you may have to do a little splicing if you use the factory cam.

There may also be other aftermarket solutions that allow you to put the camera in the tailgate bezel. Contact the guy at www.cubbycam.com. I think he has a tailgate solution, but it's not listed on the website.
