I am about to go out of warranty anything I should take it to the dealer for.

UT orange ???

I am extremely proud to report that in it's first full year of production the Avalanche has been RECALL FREE!

Hey Thanks,

I am curious as to how you could be going out of Warranty. The AV has a 3 year/36k warranty. Do you have that many miles on it ?

 ...Musta been one of the VERY first off the production line! I've got 3600 miles and thought I drove ALOT!

I'm in the same boat, I've had my Av since Sept 28, 01. I'm at 33K now. I had my engine just stall on me in Detroit Rush Hour Traffic this year in February at 10K. There was a loose connection under the dash near the fuse box the dealer blamed on me for all my add-ons, NOT. And my heater fan had a loose fitting to the fuse in the fuse box too that I had to tighten by squeezing together the connector. Then just recently I had a slight leak at the back of my transmission where the yoke goes in. I saw no puddles at work or home, I found while doing a rutine inspection of the drive-shaft and undercarriage. Found out I was low a pint of Tranny Fluid. That was at 30K the dealer replaced a worn extension housing seal. At about the same time I felt a thud like the front left tire bouncing when making right turns over rough ground like a worn on/off ramp of the highway. For that they replaced the intermediate steering drive shaft, it was worn. So far that is all I've had problems with. My Av was born on 8/01 in Mexico. I can't wait for the fuel pump to go bad, from what a mechanic said about my '96 Silverado they're getting bad, fule pump died at 64K. I love my trucks. I found out today that the cladding on my rear doors is pulling away and the bumper is pulling away from the fenders at the top on both sides.

Sorry for the novel, I keep really good logs, and a little retentive. >:D

That's pretty scary. What day of the week was your Av made on. Sounds like a Monday or Friday build. Sorry to hear about all those problems.

I have been happy with the AV over the 1st year I have 37,000miles on it and I am now out of warrenty I almost bought an extended warrenty but it was $2,000 for 100,000 miles and 72 months, I said well I have had very few problems so I will not buy another one

I'm sorry to hear the problems that you have had with your Av....hopefully you will be trouble free...very shortly....

1 year after purchase..I can say I have not taken my av in for any trouble......except now I'm starting to notice that damn condensation building up in one of my housings.... :7: This may be my first official problem of sorts...other than that side note....14,000+ miles and trouble free... :B:

WOW... Sorry to hear about your problems. I've been fortunate in my 14 months and (just turned) 8,000 miles of ownership.
I will mention this is my 2ND Avalanche, the first one lasting only 6 days! After 3 trips to the dealer, twice behind a wrecker and once limping in under it's own power, they replaced it.
They never did find the problem. One story my service advisor later relayed to me; they thought it was fixed, loaned it to the Houston Police Dept. for surveillance duty, and it stopped on them! I heard it was later stripped of warranty and auctioned.
The end result for me: LIFETIME OIL CHANGES ! ! !
I have a good relationship with my dealership.

Which dealer are you using in Houston?

Courtesy Chevrolet on I-10 at the loop. Thad Cartright is the fleet sales manager over there.
Very down to earth and good to deal with.

Excellent! That is where I bought my Av. From Larry Davis, Internet Sales. I have 6700 miles on it and have not taken it in to Courtesy for anything yet. Who is your service rep. I may want to use the same one.

Only problems known to date:
1) Parking brake goes all the way to the floor with very little feedback.
2) Annoying rattle somewhere behind me on the left.
3) Passenger front seatbelt locks in place and will not release.
4) Driver seat has a spot the size of a Kennedy half dollar where the stain has worn off.

And that's it. I have been 4 wheeling, been on a 2500 mile trip and nothing major seems to be needing work. Amazing lack of problems on such a behemoth of a vehicle.

My service rep is Jim Cox. He's also into the aftermarket mods. I've been talking to him about supercharging. He's all for it, says the only con would be paying for the labor to remove it if they had to get to something underneath for warranty work. Mentioned a Suburban that had a leaking thermostat. They had to pull the blower to get to it, charged the owner 2 hours labor.
He was a big help when I was "playing" with my Silverado. Even when I caused my own problems  .
I'd like to see Courtesy get involved with CAFCNA.
:B:

2003 Av - with 3100 miles. Still very very new.

So far only a couple of problems,

Dealer fixed a horn problem, it would go off when
I touched the emergency brake. The wiring harness
had fallen and was resting on the parking brake mechanism.

Since then, I have noticed the drivers seat does not
heat up when using the heated seats. The back rest
gets hot but not the seat. (Next time at the dealer).

I had never heard about checking what day of the week your AV was built on till just recently, and it makes a lot of sense. I'm happy to report that my was a Wednesday build. :)

Good Morning everyone,
Interesting topic. Well, I have had the outside seal of where the transfer case meets the driveshaft and the door panels on the drivers side which did not seat well...
Thank GOD for the Avalanche. My dear wife owns a GMC Envoy. It has 23k miles, has been recalled 4 times! :8: The first problem we had with it was at 44 miles as we were driving away from the dealership. The tranny had to be pulled on that one. Now, the front diff leaks!!! No one has any parts in stock for this $##%%$. I LOVE my AV!!
Durwin
PS. I don't know why, put the people at the dealership hate it when I call the Envoy, the "Shopqueen" in front of customers.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Have seen a few TSB's but no recalls. With close to 42,000 miles on 'Whitie' I havent had many problems at all. Still getting looks everytime someone passes me. (y) Could it be my dashing smile? >:D

October made 1 year with my AV 5,000 miles on it I had to bring it in for a real serious problem, it was missing the right side gutter in the cargo area, other than that knock on wood. I think there are more hours on my arms from Zainoing my AV than on the AV it self.

how can you find out what day your av was built

I was wondering the same thing. I got my 02 NorthFace in Nov, 01. Just turned over 49,000 miles. Except for a transmission problem covered by warranty they have been trouble-free miles. :D
