Been taking 2013 Avalanche to dealership to changed oil & rotate tires while under warranty. Now that garages are charging $80 plus to do this, decided to do myself. What's do you guys recommend for type of oil & filter? I change every 5000 miles.

I use Mobil 1 5W-30 and NAPA Platinum (WIX) oil filters in all of our vehicles.

Don't throw anything at me group, but what do you think about (Walmart's) Super Tech Full Synthetic? It meets Dexos Gen 2, which is a big deal from the little I've read, and a requirement for the direct injection motor in the wife's car. And the best part, it's only about $16 for 5 quarts! I swapped both vehicles to this a couple changes ago, no regrets. I ran Mobile 1 or one of the upper Valvoline lines for a couple decades, but think I'm getting just as good of oil with the Super Tech now.

royal purple even if.. lol

I'm about to try RP oil for the first time. I watched some old guy on YT do a vid on it against Mobile1 using a masspectrometer and RP had the better heat durability, less metal like iron and magnesium (i believe it was mag) and foamed at higher temps than Mobile1.
Figure I'll take a chance on it and see. Amazon's cost wasn't too bad considering I'm from a time when a case of oil cost under 20$ and all oil changes at shops were 19.99 without a special.

I'm going to the Walmart Synthetic and wix filter...Already have the Wix Air filter in... And Project Farms is great....
Wix or NAPA gold - same filter. Any 5W30 oil with the correct API spec should be fine - synthetic or not. I use Wix filters and regular old Quaker State 5W30 synthetic blend, but I change every 3000 miles. I like to keep my oil clean and don't care if my oil lasts forever without breakdown. I believe SP is the current API spec for 5W30 motor oil. Beware of anything less as that would tend to indicate less quality in manufacturing. Looks like Walmart meets GM DEXOSOS Gen 2 spec and says nothing about API spec. Should be just fine.

Just bought the Walmart Synthetic 5-30w in a box for $35.85 (12qts) I was a little surprised it was in a bladder..like Wine in a box lol. I was thinking 12 qt bottles.. I guess thats why it was $3 a qt.
