Love to see the transmission select lever moved to the console like the Ford trucks, this go's for all chevy's too. Upgrade the interior to outclass the Ford. Maybe add some features from the camaro's and vette.

now you did it... they stopped making them because peeps like you had ideas to make them  better and they couldn't handle it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just jokein, sure it wasn't your fault they canceled em

still not moved... in the hummer at least in 05 they were on the console but this is the interior of the new sierra

i perfer the shifter on the column in trucks. I have drove a newer ford f150 with it on the console and it feels out of place to me. But that maybe because i've always drove gm truck products where its always been on the column

But would like to see someone customize one and see it moved just for curiosity

They have been on the column since the 50's, time to get modern, lol
Interesting comment, since the floor shifter came out decades before the column shifter and the console shifter is basically a floor shifter in/on a console, I guess you don't want a console shifter.

Maybe that statement means you want buttons on the dash and paddle shifters for using the manual mode?
(that would be more modern)

Hey I like that paddle shifter idea.  (y)

I guess each type of shifter has pluses and minuses. I bet some AV owners who complain about lack of cubby holes and small item storage would not like to give up the console space with a shifter.
As others have said column shifters may have been around a long time but floor shifters (not many consoles in the olden days) have been around since the beginning so not much new with that idea. Even push button shifting on the dash has been done before in a Studebaker and some other brands many years ago. Paddle shifters may be the newest version of shifting.
As my mother-in-law used to say "that's why they make chocolate and vanilla" to give each person a choice to get something they enjoy and you can't please everyone with just one thing.

Well, maybe GM can come up with an App so I can use my Iphone to shift.LOL
Android version too.
Like they say, "there's an app for that"

Or, they could just put the controls on the Nav screen.

Guys on the Silverado site had done the shifter conversions. ( I was going to do this a couple of years ago but decided to go another route). It looks good but when in park it is very far foward. as Far as paddle shifters ( I was thinking of doing this on my Charger). Here is the link.http://www.mastershift.com/ also try a company called Retro-Tek, a company in Riverside, California(y)

As far as manual tranny..... My Chevy 210 and Nova had three on the tree; the Camaro had four on the floor.......a floor shift makes a lot more sense with a manual tranny, you sacrifice floor space for faster shifts and less trouble prone setup for the shift rods or cables.

My 65 Impala had a two speed automatic with a floor shifter and my Avys have a six on the tree.......a column shift makes a lot more sense with an auto tranny, no rods, only one cable, and most importantly the shift lever cannot be accidently jarred out of gear by the passenger (don't ask).

Don't know so have to ask. Did they make a manual trans AV? If so then was it a 5 or 6 speed?
NO MANUAL
ALWAYS AUTO Tranny

If the AV comes back in 2016 I would love to see a manual trans 6 speed. When I bought my '02 AV I really had a hard time letting go of my 4Runner with the 5 speed manual trans.

ms38w put a manual in his.  So did Lord Aries who hasn't been on this site in a long time.  After I busted the output shaft and cracked the case on my rebuilt original tranny I got a hold of Aries' original one and used that case as a starting point for current tranny.  Besides using a hardened output shaft in it I've also toned down how hard it hits in the tune.
