Remote Keyless Entry for Multiple Vehicles

I have an 03 Avalanche and a 98 Suburban. :0: Can I program the Avalanche to recognize the Suburban keyless entry remote, and still have it operate the Suburban?

I do not want to have two key fobs on my keyring.

I have read some talk about rolling code? Will this cause me grief? :E:

Thanks for help.

The 03 can store four transmitters. Take all the transmitters to the dealer, and he will clear the transmitters programmed, then program in all the ones you brought with you.

Then you'll need to do the same for the 'burb. This is assuming they use the same remotes. Also, make sure you use the remote with the most buttons for your keyring. My Z28 has an extra button for the rear hatch.

Hmmmm, I wonder if that extra button could be used on the AV? Maybe a cargo light switch?

On the Z28 there is a procedure that involves removing a fuse, using the key, putting your left leg in, and your right leg out.... It is a pain, so I just took it to the dealer. Turned out there magic box hadn't been updated, so they fopllowed the manual procedure, worked fine.

The only problems are
1. If you have both cars, you're gonna unlock both
2. The rolling codes may get out of synch. I think if you press your arm button repeatedly, it will re-sysnch. (Or maybe I'M getting this confused with my garage door opener? ???

Found the sequence to program a 99 Denali, it should work. It's here http://www.automotiveforums.com/t129207.html

I dont think it will work. I just bought an o3 wbh z71 and had the parts department order extra remotes for it. You can program up to 4 remotes. Well, the ones they ordered looked exactly the same but did not program. Possible a different frequency. I also have a 99 Burb and tried to program the remotes from it to the 03 Avalanche as well, but it did not, and looks slightly different. I should be getting another set of remotes for the Avalanche soon. Programing seems pretty simple. I can post instructions once I know for sure it works. Having several remotes for different vehicles can be a pain to carry around. I use quick disconnects between them to help that problem.

The instructions for resetting the rolling code are printed on the inside of the fob: Press Lock and Unlock together, and hold for 7 seconds while near the truck. All the doors will lock then unlock as confirmation.

This seems different than the Av procedure, which is discussed here: http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php?board=20;action=display;threadid=9520

It seems the method to enter the programming mode is different.

Keep in mind that this will erase the programming for all existing fobs, in favor of the ones that are being programmed at the time. Therefore, it is necessary to reprogram all intended fobs at once. It is not possible to add a new fob, while remembering the previously programmed ones. Therefore, make sure you have all fobs available before you start.
