I just bought some Visualogic headrest TV's. But I need to get the seat cover apart to fish the wires through. Anone installed this system and know how to open up the seats????

???

I've never done my avalanche but every car I've seen is held in by "hog rings". Typically you either stretch them off, or in some cases bend them straight and re-bend them in place. Some times the multiple bends will require replacement. I know this isn't specific, but hope it helps.

BTW, Do you have an '02 or '03....and did you buy the vizualogic dvd/monitor system, or just the oem headrest replacements?

Can you use "fish tape" to pull the wires down. I would try that before taking the covers off. Or even try a coat hanger and fish it down first, leaving the end out, then tape the wires to the end and carefully pull them down through.

I bought the whole DVD - 2 headrests set from Autobarn. But I still cannot get tge seat apart. it seems like it's two joints connecting the front piece to the back piece.

I moved this thread here as others have added Screens to the back of the head rests and may help....

I also edited the title so they would understand why...

good job on the relo ygmn, now I just spotted this topic and maybe I can add some insight, having done my headrests and run the wires.

do not remove the seat cover unless absolutely nec and you should always avoid it if possible (so hard to get things "right" again). With that said, I think the Viz system actually runs their wires right through the metal post of the headrest, which I did not do - I have a single cable that runs right from my headrest (alongside the post) into the seat (alongside the post). Not at all unsightly, and my headrests are always in the "down" position so it is never even seen anyway. I had to pop off the plastic post guide (at this point the headrests are off) and cut the fabric slightly to enlarge the hole to allow a little more manueverability. (I have leather seats with cloth inserts). Then, I took the other side of the wire harness (the M&D units I used have a short run from the monitor that mates with a plug into the longer cable run) and taped the end plug to a coat hanger wire, and fed that up the back of the seat from the bottom, near the c-console side - there is a natural entry point "pocket" at the bottom of the back, on the right side - a 3" sleeve where the leather "panel" that frames the main panel terminates.

now if you have a wire that is run inside a post, I would take a long coat hanger wire and explore what you can do inside the post hole - I suspect it may be open ended at the bottom and you could direct the hanger to some exit location on the seat back bottom, perhaps the same one I used.

The seat covers are held together with (I'm not sure what they call them) plastic long hooks. The pieces run the width of the seat and they hook into each other. You need to pull the fabric/leather together at the bottom back of the seat to disengage the clip.
That should give you enough to snake the wires through.
If you want to completely remove the seat cover, reach your hand up inside and remove the armrest (if you have buckets). The armrest has to come off first, then you can remove the cover.
There's also a couple of velcro strips that run vertically on the front of the seat to keep the cover from moving.

Hope this helps.

I have spent the last two hours trying to fish a coat hanger thru the seats.

Does anyone else have any hints?

You guys are going about it all the wrong way!! If you look at the very bottom of the seat back, you will notice that the front part is bound to the back part by a plastic section running all the way accross. One section of plastic is hooked into the other section. Take a panel tool and carefully but forcefully get the two sections apart. Once this is done, you will be able to easily pull the seat back loose and feed the wire down in less than a minute. If the whole process takes you more than 5 minutes, you're milking it!! lol

Nw that would really be overkill!! Nice job on the info though. See the bottom of the seat cover in the second picture, well the piece running along the bottom of it is the "hooked" part. You just need to pull down a little on this section while looking up at it from behind the seat and separate the two parts. This is the hardest part of the whole process.

NO NO NO, you do not need to do all this. Go to an auto parts store and get a replacement spedo cable. pull back the material from one of the bases where the headrest post goes intot the seat and run the cable down the back of the seat to the bottoem. Since the spedo cable is very flexible you can guide it with your fings. It took me 5 minutes per seat to run the cable to the boootm of the seat and voila power and signal to the headrests.

Good luck
