Removing Lift

Just bought a 2010 Avalanche LT and love everything about this ride ... except it has been lifted at least 6' or more. Like the stance of the truck, yet I (6'3") have trouble getting in, and my girl (5'1") said it is damn near impossible for her. So, the lift needs to be removed.

Cannot find one article here on that subject.

Local mechanic sez he can remove the lift, return the vehicle to stock, for $400, plus parts. That seems fair. What parts shall I need? Where to obtain them? Price? Is there value in old, replaced parts?

Also said will need new tires. Currently running around town on 305.55.20 with beautiful rims. What size to downgrade? Shame to lose such a great looking wheel, practically new; do you think a tire shop would trade with me?

Thank you all for considering such an (apparently) unique question!

I am sure you could sell the old lift kit on here, ebay, craigslist etc. peeps always looking for deals.

For tire size if going back stock we have an entire section to tires and wheels and what fits has been discussed many many times.

But ya never know what a tire store will do; some may give credit for your current wheels and tires... ya have to ask

Yes, I can see how a 6 foot lift could make it difficult to get in and out of your truck! :D

All kidding aside, I run 305.55.20's on my truck with just a 2.5" leveling kit. My wife and kids have no problem getting in and out of it. Maybe you should just have the lift reduced and keep your current tires and rims.

Another way to go and to earn some points in your girl's eyes would be to consider a complete lowering kit.....
Even 2.5" above stock could make it hard for a 5'1" person to climb in or out of an AV. That way if you buy a kit you are getting matched parts that are new and it will make it easy for her to get in or out. (people before things....tires etc.)..........

Agree with the above comment. When a lift is installed they usually cut off some brackets and shave some areas to install the kit.

Thank you for all your rapid replies, folks!

In case you're interested: Took over a week, and $1,500, 8 bills for rubber alone, to lower my 'Lanche. Spent another $1,400 getting a 100k tune-up, about half for just the spark plugs (yikes!) Oiled all the bleached plastic, paint touch-up on two small dings, and my 'Lanche is 100%. Big, sexy, and mighty, like I prefer my women.

Oh, my bride still needs a 6" footstool to enter the beast, yet not exit. Mimi loves 'Cicatriz' and enjoys all the style and comfort this truck offers. She also understands her #1 spot in my heart, may have been challenged.

Ouch! Think if I was to reverse it back to stock I would probably just sell my truck. But thanks for the update!

I' trying to determine the amount of lift my 07 LTZ has on it. But having a hard time finding the factory height. I know its 76.6" with factory tires but I have 35's currently and everything I find about measuring your lift is from center of hub to flat of fender. I cant find a factory number that measures this same way. Any Ideas what the factory measurement is from center of hub to flat of the fender?
