OK, the AVie is going into the shop to get the rock dent fixed. (see "Birthday present" thread in Pete's place for the details)

They are going to paint both doors so the paint matches. I had recently installed the chrome GMC moldings and they were going to have to replace them. I thought I could save a few bucks and reuse the ones I have. I got them off the truck OK, but I can't get the adhesive tape off the moldings. (What's on the truck is their problem ;) ) I've tried various adhesive removers, goo gone, UnDu, etc., and nothing seems to touch this stuff. Tried the hairdryer too. After about a half hour, I had about 2" of the tape cleared off, basically picking it off in little bits

Any suggestions for removing the adhesive tape from the moldings?

Thanks :)

Try lighter fluid (naptha) but be careful about getting it on the front surface of the molding. It will dissolve the adhesive. You might want to check a small spot somewhere to make sure it doesn't damage the molding. It can cause problems with certain types of plastics like acrylic.

OK, Tried lighter fluid and some Acetone as well. No effect. Checked out 3M's website for a suggested remover, and they say, "replace the part"

That's not the answer I was looking for :(

Any other suggestions?

3M adhesive remover.....or wax and tar remover in spray can at wal mart.....awesome stuff...

OK, tried the 3M adhesive remover, bug and tar remover, and WD40, just in case. No Soap.

I guess this is probably hopeless :C:

I'm going to ask at the body shop if they have and "Special goop" that might work. Otherwise, I guess I'm going to have to chuck out brand new moldings.

It is to weep!

you need to let the chemical dwell and that is sit on the surface for a while and break down the glues....this may take 10-15 mins...also it may take repeated applications and some mechanical help from scraper........
