wolverine, try also to print out this thread, and show it to your service manager, see what he says, I double checked yesterday @ my parts department and the glass is $1400.00

Thanks...wish me luck. If that doesn't work...any good ideas on a "repair seal". I havent experienced any water leak yet and we have had some RAIN in NC but...ya never know

Hello, has anyone tried to get their cracked mid gate window replaced after the 3yr factory warrn. has run out?  I still have the extended warranty and the service department is telling me it doesnt cover trim parts.  Thanks

as far as I can remember, there have only been a handful that have had them covered, you might try a different dealership
good luck

Still trying to get mine done, I will get it fixed when I get back, It is getting pretty bad.

I am going to try another dealer, its real bad.  I have a snugtop, and always leave the window stored behind the seat.  I saw the post about the issue and checked and sure enough 2 @ .5" seperations.  The sad part about the dealer that I went to (criswell chevy) is they never got around to look at the window or called GM as they said they would when I 1st when in for service.

Good Morning,
Last night I discovered that the moulding surrounding my rear window had cracked. I searched through the previous threads concerning replacement. I never saw anything about getting the window repaired. Has anyone successfully had it repaired? The window is still good. It's just the moulding that is cracked. Just wondering.....

I never updated the status to this;
After visiting a second Chevy dealer whom accused me of breaking the window I called GM customer service.  They suggested I visit a third dealer and they would send a rep to the dealership to review the issue.
GM ended up splitting the dealer cost ($approx 700) of a new window and they kept the old window.  Look for the encapsulation midgate window issue.  I would call around to different Chevy dealers until you find a dealer that has heard of the issue. If you are the original owner they may work with you.  Hope this helps. Cheers!

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed a noise from the back. Sort of like a creaking.
When I looked at the rear window, I noticed that the molding had cracked on the lower corners......

I don't think that GM will replace this on a 2002 vehicle  :E:

If your the original owner give GM customer service 800 number a call and maybe they will work something out with you.  There was an issue with the early 2500's and the back window encapsulation.

I have the same problem also with my back window also.....There are 6 friends and other I know has the same problems... When I took my in to the dealer there was a GM rep on site but offer to go in half the cost of the glass.....I think they should replace them free of charge...... He also said that they would not do a recall....

Just thought I would bring this thread back to life.  I had this happen on my 2008 a few months ago or so and finally thought I would do a search on it.  I think I may have even been in the truck when it cracked as I remember hearing a pretty loud pop while driving but wasn't sure what it was.  While filling gas I noticed the little gap in the window trim.  Fortunately for me it's on the upper part of one of the sides, so it is covered a good bit.

Wish i would have read this prior to my Warranty expiring.

2011 AV LT - 54,000 Miles -Crack appeared at the bottom Center like most have seen - I Actually thought it was part of the design.
A couple weeks ago - I heard a loud "Pop" while driving - wasn't sure where it cam from -
Opening the rear driver side door this morning - noticed a larger separation in the window trim along the side this time.

Spoke with my local Chevy Dealership / Services center. (Fort Lauderdale, Florida  - AutoNation dealer on US1)
They acted like it was the first time anyone came to them with this issue - Very Short
Since my general Warranty expired due to the mileage.  I would have to purchase a new window unit from them:
CHEVY COST:  $900.60  (Replacement - With No warranty)  NOT ABOUT TO PAY THEM THAT AMOUNT!!!!

Spoke with SAFELITE Rep.
I have to say I was very impressed by their rep's - understood the issue was very helpful.
SafeLite Cost: $497.00  (Replacement - Life Time Warranty)

Those of you Still experiencing this issue.  Don't pay CHEVY For the replacement part !
Please give your business to "SafeLite"  Good company's deserve your business.

I"m not saying CHEVY is bad.. I've only ever owned chevy's- However, they need to learn and understand that you sell a product - you should be responsible for it's defects.
