I would like to know if Gm resolves this issue at no cost to me. I will fight Gm and my dealer if my dealer on monday gives me poop. I will be armed with the TSB.

Replaced ours under warranty ;D

The service rep even called us back after we has shown him the problem. Asked us to take the Av back in---they wanted to see the window again to make sure they ordered the right one the first time on account of the dark tinting. Phil Wright Chevrolet in Russellville has the BEST service department around this area ;)

Called dealer today and he said he ordered a new midgate window. I will see what happens when it comes in. He did ask if my mileage was under 36K, I said sure even though i have much more than that. I have a denali cluster installed, so he will see lowwwww miles. i will keep updating this post until I have it installed at no cost to me. otherwise I need help.

I have been fighting :8: with my dealer and now GM. GM is sending me a letter notifying me of my rights to go to arbitration, which I plan to initiate. I have been accused of dropping my window, which is untrue. There are no impact marks or any signs of abuse. They are unable to articulate how they came to this conclusion. I take extremely good care of my AV and I am the only one who "changes" the configuration.

My trim cracked at the alignment arrow and I am wondering if the others who have experienced this issue occurred in the same place? I am going to fight this to the end as the dealership wants me to pay $1,400 for the replacement. The GM representative commented "You really don't expect GM to cover this replacement with your mileage! (~27,000 miles)

Thank you for interest and comments.

I hear ya. My trim is cracked and I my dealer has ordered a new window for me. I called GM and put a claim in. GM said it is not a defect. I said then why did GM send a service bullentin about cracked window trim and is replacing the part. This bulletin only went to the dealers, so I said to them that GM isnt going to tell any of us so after the warranty we notice a crack and have to pay. GM blew me off, but I did get a claim in.

My AV had a crack at the bottom of the window trim in the middle. All I had to do was point the crack out when I took the truck in for an oil change. The dealer replaced it with absolutely no hassle. This was several months ago, and the replacement was the dark glass that matched the rear passenger side windows, which had not originally come on the truck.

a gm rep looked at mine today. replacement is on the way.the service rep tried to acuse me.9500mi. on it .good luck.

We had ours replaced about four months ago.The service guy said that chevy was having several complaints about this. But they replaced with no problem.

Well, well, well. I saw this thread 2 weeks ago and so I went and checked my window. Whew. No Crack. This Afternoon I went out and wow HUGE crack in the middle bottom at the arrow. I'm printing this thread out and am going to the dealer right now to see what they say.

I was getting water on the inside of the cab on the floor from the rear to front along the sill plate. The cause was the cracked trim on the midgate window. After some discussion with GM Customer Service (following a very bad exchange with the dealer whom I trusted to service my vehicle for warranty items), my sealing dealer (Goodman Chevrolet in New Ellenton, SC) replaced the window at no cost to me. The crack was on the bottom at the alignment arrow and on top top near the driver side latch. My mileage at replacement was 43,971. I only had the standard 3/36K warranty.

Guess what guys Tim is the best, he's my service manager at major chevrolet, I'm having the same problem you guys are having at first he sounded a little skeptical about replacing the glass, so I forwarded this link to him, BAM he replies back and ask for my VIN so he could order me a new glass.
WOW what a trio:
CAFCNA, TIM and HEAVY D, it doesn't get any better.

Below are the TBAs on the problem with the midgate glass cracking. This has been covered on a number of treads; no one should have a problem getting the glass replaced. Many members have had their glass replace at no charge even when they were out of the 36,000 mile warranty.

I just wanted to say THANKS to those on this thread and CAFCNA in general. Got my '02 Avalanche last Nov. Had never actually removed midgate window. Sunday was helping somebody move so removed midgate and stored as it looked like manual said to. Later when I went to put back in place I was just sick when I saw where the glass 'molding' or 'framing' appeared to have pulled apart in the lower corner, passenger side. I'm glad to see this thread - I'll copy
the TBAs from the govt web site and take to dealer.
THANKS!

Hey Big S, I just got my service managers e-mail address and forwarded him this thread bada boom bada bing.
Good luck

The dealer replaced mine with no questions asked. I thought the was a freak occurance and shouldn't of happened in the first place.

I have an 03 which has the next generation rear window. I have no cracks but the trim does making an annoying clicking sound around the handles towards the top of the window frame. Is this common? And will the dealer replace a window that has no visible signs of fatigue?

The last time I had it looked at, the dealer said that there was nothing he could do about it.

I know there is an original thread on this where a couple of members posted pictures, as far as the light clicking noise, I get it in mine I just might consider lubricating the rubber seal all the way around where the glass sits.

Thanks for all the replies. I conducted further research on our site and found another discussion thread with pics, and the TSB link. I put togther 10 pages of these comments, pics, and the TSB and delivered to my service manager who accused me of dropping my window. He sent it to the GM Customer Rep who denied my original claim. I received notice within 2 hours my window was on order at no cost. ;D Without this site I would have gone into arbitration and taken my chances with that political pork barrel. Thanks to all of you who took the time to post your comments.

Well it's done, just got back a little while ago with my new glass, just wish I could have kept the old one for a spare.

Glad I checked out this discussion on the rear windshield. Just bought a 2002 used and had the cracks in the rear pointed out by a fellow AV owner. Any experience from anyone on getting the windshield replaced even though I am not the orig. owner? I printed the TSB off and plan to take it with me to my local dealer.
