Replacement Antenna

Guys,

I am looking to replace my factory antenna. It bangs every parking garage and is annoying. I want a shorter one, but I also want a BLACK one, not a silver, aluminum one.

Any suggestions? Can you paint one, can you cut the original off? Or any ideas on an aftermarket one?

Thanks,

The antenna just unscrews, no need to cut it. ?You should have received an orange antenna wrench in your glovebox. ?It's handy for tightening and loosening the original. ?

I got a flexible shorty antenna from eBay for $15. ?It looks and works great and reception is as good as ever. ?Search under "Avalanche" and "Antenna"

eBay Avalanche Antenna

Be sure to take it off if you go through a car wash. Check the photo link in my sig to see how it looks.

That is perfect, Thanks for the quick reply.

Yeah, Taking it off is no problem, someone told me that they just used a hack saw and cut a few inches off of the top of their antenna to solve the problem, but that seemed a bit extreme.

Thanks again, I am gonig to check that out.

I also have the short flexible antenna , purchased on ebay for $15,
I looked locally in the auto parts stores but could not find just the antenna all they seemed to have are antenna replacement kits w/wiring etc.
I have not noticed any change in reception,works great,orderded a 2nd
one for my wifes trailblazer, same antenna but $3.00 cheaper. check the ebay ads for different vehicles, same antenna just listed at different prices

You know I make custom antennas... I could have hooked you up with anything you want. If you are still interested I can show you demos.

I have a Chevy BowTie shortie antenna in black. It looks great, and I get alot of comments. :) Here is the link to the manufacturer. Frogworks International, INC. Hope this helps. By the way, my reception is still great! I think the BowTie actually magnifies the receptiion. ;)

Ron,

your idea is quite excellent, I actually got a trailblazer antenna for 9.99 no one else bid on it....

one other question though....

I used to drive a 94 GMC C1500. I have noticed that the reception in the Avalanche is Total Crap compared to the 94 GMC. Has anyone else noticed better reception with older GM model vehicles??

I have 2003 with Bose...I do realize that this euro antenna will not improve reception but remember it is better to look good then to feel good.

Red, that looks great. I know you will never be 'done'. But I can't wait to see pictures of your truck when it rolls out the back of the shop.

That does look awesome. What length is that one? Could you make it in solid black?

That one is 14 inches with a 1 inch base so 15 inches overall. That is the minimal length before you notice a loss in radio pickup. but from 14 inches to stock there is no change in quality. (y) Yeah I can paint it that same color as the black offered on the '02 and '03 models.
