Replacement dash questions

I have a 2011 Avalanche and I have the dash out. I'm fixing the cracks but it's a lot worse out of the truck than it was in the truck. I started looking around for a new dash and GM has the Tahoe dash for $450 but they want $860 for my dash. I just don't see a difference between them. Also another site will say it doesn't fit a 2011 but will fit a 2012 Avalanche. What's the difference between the two? Anyone bought a new dash? What did you get and what did you pay? I know I won't be happy with the cap so that option is out. I kinda wish I would have left it and dealt with the two small splits that were visible but at this point in for a penny in for a pound.

Suggestions? Thanks.

Comment wasn't really as relevant as I thought.

Replaced mine last summer.
Got mine from the dealer since there is no shipping cost as when you get one online. Saved a few hundred this way and they would be responsible for any shipping damage.
Paid $550 + $45 for tax.
Same areas cracked on mine, hump over gauges, at the airbag and at the center speaker.

In a video I saw a way of hopefully stiffening and dampening any flexing of the new dash and prevent future cracking using acoustic matting (Dynamat) on the underside. It doesn't flex now over bumps in the road but it doesn't have three cracks allowing it to flex as much either!

That's my same plan on the matting. I am going to go back and buy the Tahoe dash. It was a dealer telling me the Avalanche dash was twice as much. I wanted to do my homework before buying. Thanks

Titanium sounds like a grey dash.
Ebony is the black one.
Last year my dealer said this dash was getting somewhat low in the stock he saw but still at least 20 he guessed.
I got one. Cost $100 more but whatever. It's in my shop waiting, I've got to get an appointment and have the airbag recall done before I put it in.

Thought I would update the thread. I finally got the airbag recall done and put the dash in. I put sound deadener on the bottom much like Toyhauler did. I also added soft foam under a few areas that had some bounce to them. Man it's so nice to drive down the road with out the annoying rattles.

Thanks for all your help.

How difficult was it to re and re time wise and effort

Not at all. I guess the toughest part was getting it around the steering column and shifter. I could have lowered that more but I recently had a surgery and bending over was out of the question. Other than that, just take your time and pay attention there are a lot of screws to remove. They are almost all 7mm. There are a couple of 10mm and a few phillips at the glove box and torx at the guages.
It looks harder than it is. If I wasn't hurt you could do it in an afternoon. I took mine apart before my surgery and then had to heal up before getting my air bag recall done that's the only reason it took so long to swap it.

Thank you for the info I may tackle this if I can find a dash to use. Hope you healed up ok.

Yeah, I'm all healed up now and feeling good. Thanks. If you do it and have any questions feel free to reach out.

2013. I want to purchase a replacement. Have to do the evaporator and the dash has to come off anyway. May as well replace. Mine is like a dark grey but I don't know what the factory color is called. If other than the dealer, where can I get this?

I looked at several GM online discount sources and I usually had questions whether the dash I was looking at was the correct one for my truck or not. Then the shipping for the dash was crazy and if there is damage the work to get reimbursed is up to you.

If you have some relationship and history with a GM dealership, they may give you some discounted price as they did for me. I think they came down almost $100 from the listed price. There is no shipping cost to you and if there is a problem with what they ordered or it has damage, it's their problem to resolve and replace. I think I got a slightly better price from the dealer not paying for shipping and no worries with what I was ordering. My dealer also gave me a few bits of advice and said if I run into a problem I could give them a call.

My dash has just basically disintegrated. Went to install a new radio and it crumbled. Like it was held together with super glue. I have a lot of money in her. Her name is Jazmine. Hard pressed to find one like mine. Custom front, chameleon paint, racing exhaust, etc. I’ve had her about 3 years. She’s got 198,500 miles on her. I Need new headlights and tail lights. But right now I have no radio bc my dash is so bad that I have the climate control with the radio surround empty placed in the console bc I had nowhere to screw anything into. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am going to contact my dealer and go from there. It’s hard to find a dash. I had put a new topper pad on it when I bought it bc it was busted on the top. Thanks

Jazmine sounds like a very nice truck!
Looks like a 2nd generation Avy so there should be some available through the dealer. There are also salvage yards that might have something and if you're careful taking it off of another truck you might get a good one.

As mentioned above the Tahoe/Avalanche/Suburban dash are the same.

There is a difference in the dash when it comes to whether you have the Bose system. The dash with the Bose system has a speaker in the center of the dash, the non-Bose dash will not have the hole for that speaker.
