Replacement Of Factory Gas Cap

tether is included with the Avalanche locking gas cap. ?Looks just like the origianl cap but with a key. ?I recomend it! ?Have had no problems. ?About $20 from the dealer.

Dirk ? ?:B:

P.S. To remove the old tehter, you will find a small hold that you can put a small screwdriver into to unhook the tether you are removing.

Ok, I admit. I'm a sucker for a gadget. This locking cap has a built-in combination lock, and you can stash your backup key as well.

Here's what the seller had to say:

"Hi Pete
MS-571 is correct for your 2002 Chevy Avalanche, it has a pressure valve to prevent the [check engine] light from coming on, [have] in stock, all orders are shipped priority mail [2=3 days], shipping [USA] and [tax] is included in the $29.00 ea."

For a peek go to: Gas Cap

I'll report back on how it works out.

I've had the cap for about two week now and here's what I found out:

1) Works fine and no problems so far.
2) Had to tuck the factory cap tether back into it's "hole." (When I used it on the new cap it kept binding.) But I can hook the new cap onto the fuel door tether hanger and the cap stays put.
3) Placed back up key into cap well, but had to grind off part of key top for key to fit inside.
4) The combo numbers could be a little bigger and brighter. In low light they are a little hard to see.

All in all I like it. Don't have to put another key for a gas cap on my already loaded key ring. New cap is easy to put on and remove. Don't have to worry about some kid pouring sugar into the tank. Don't have to call On* to unlock the doors if I can't find my AV key.

I tried siphoning gas from my AV with a 1/4" clear vinyl hose. It will not enter the tank. Must be an obstruction. I would like to find a way to by-pass this. Hey folks, any ideas?

Tip the Av on its side and pour it out? >:D

But seriously, I've heard that there is a screen part way down the filler neck to prevent you from doing just what you are trying to do. It's gonna be tough to get around that.

Short of removing the filler neck from the truck and trying to punch it out from the bottom, I'm afraid I have no ideas. I have never done this, so I don't know if it's practical or not. All I know for sure is I wouldn't do it with the filler neck in place attached to the tank. It would not be good if you generated a spark doing this  and you wouldn't want any pieces falling in the tank.

Getting a gas can sounds a whole lot simpler.

Well last week Service Engine light went on so took Rocky in today. Dealer says ECS checks out and suspects gas cap was not on right or left off. (I replaced locking gap with factory cap last week.)

So I'll be sending the RescueMan locking cap back and can't recommend it for the Avalanche.
