I just got through installing my Alpine XMA-T200 RF package from Crutchfield $149.00 heck of a deal. I have a Bose 6 radio in a 2003 Z-66 AV. The thing sounds great and I only have 1 problem and need some advice. I?m a newbie so be gentle.
Here goes - The Alpine requires 3 hot wires 2 to the battery (I spliced into the orange wire on my accessory plug in my center console and a 3rd that goes to the ignition. I used an add a circuit and plugged into the radio fuse on the left side of the dash. My problem is when you turn the key off the XM shuts off but the radio stays on until a door is opened. I would like to have them both cut off togather. What fuse or wire should I be tapping into? I would like to either tap the radio wiring harness or the fuse box on the left side of the dash the add a circuits work great.
Any suggestions

Wow I can?t believe no one has ever run into this problem before. I remember reading a post from last year but can?t find it now?. It mentioned something about an accessory delay and how to locate the fuse or wire I did a search but came up empty.

Come-on folks.

I need help on this one :0:

masksav,

Your question has been asked and answered in a few various forms. The link below talks about wiring in an amp, but they are talking about the same hookup wire that you are looking for;

http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php?board=20;action=display;threadid=8883;start=msg126317#msg126317

The following thread has a good post that further explains which wires are linked to the retained power and which are not... you're after reply number 8 which deals with the 2003, the info for the 2002's is different.

Thanks for the links.

If I am reading this correctly there?s nothing that will do what I want it to, that is tap into a Retained Accessory Power hot wire.

Am I understanding this correctly? ???

Well mate, if I read this correctly....

2003 Accessory Power
For the 2003 vehicles, everything is run by computers --No switch actually connects to anything but the computer.
Retained Accessory Power is a serial data stream sent out to any device (ie, radio) that uses it. Except for the sunroof, there is no power available to run any device.
The accy position on the ignition switch feeds 6 fuses in the fuse block on the left side of the insturment panel.
All exit the fuse block on C1, a black 68-way connector on the back of the fuse block.
Here is the wire list:
F8 IGN0 10A fuse pink wire feeds PCM
E8 IGN0 10A fuse white wire feeds BCM
B2 TBC ACCY 10A fuse yellow feeds BCM
B1 SEO ACCY 10A fuse yellow not used
B1 WS wiper 25A fuse yellow I haven't looked yet to see if these share a cavity, or if SEO just isn't there.
F1 rear wiper 15A fuse I don't know if this one is there, either.

Check these connections with a meter before you connect anything, in case of errors.

I hope this info is clear and helpful. If not, please ask.
Have fun! ;D

Then yes you are right... maybe the man to ask is kodiakz, he is getting a reputation for knowing all this stuff. I'll send him a PM and ask him to comment here for us 2003 owners. :2:

Here ya go guys. Driver's side fuse panel. Look for a 10a fuse on the left side labeled [TBC IGN 0]. Tried it real quick and it is tied into the RAP. Let me know how it works.

Hey mate, you da man. (y) It was actually for masksav, hopefully he will let us know if it works... thanks again.

Thanks for looking into this for me....

Just gave it a try and no cigar.

I don't know if it makes any difference on a 2003 but I have a Bose 6 and I used a 10 amp add a circuit also I tried a couple of the other fuses and still no power when I turn the key off. The radio does stay on until I open the door, the XM however cuts off as soon as I turn the key off...........

There's gotta be some way to make this work

I just verified this again. There is already a 10amp fuse in the box that stays on with the retained accessory power, and this is an '03 vehicle. Make sure you have the correct wire from the Alpine unit (should be red) tied into this fuse.

Skidd & Kodiakz thanks for all your help and advice.
Unfortunately for me it's still not working ???

I just re-checked it to satisfy my own curiosity. I tied the 2 yellow wires together before the in-line fuse and spliced them onto the orange wire going to the accessory plug on the center console. The red wire was run to the radio fuse but I have since moved it to the TBC IGN 0 this morning.

I just walked out a 2nd time and rechecked it. It is definitely the red wire to the TBC IGN 0 When you turn the key off the Alpine completely powers down the radio stayed on until I opened the door.

Working on it for you. Will work on it some more tonight and get back to you asap.

Do you think that I the orange hot wire from the accessory plug could be causing the IGN fuse to cut out?
:E:

I'm thinking that is your problem... I would try running a hot wire to the battery just as a test measure. If kodiakz is correct about the red wire, then test of full time power to the orange wires will truely measure the RAP theory about TBC IGN 0. One we get this solved we'll have to change the name of this thread to indicate RAP 2003's.

masksav, I just finished installing a quick kenwood head unit using a nearby ground and the TBC fuse for accessory, and it worked without a hitch. Unit powered on fine and stayed on until door was opened. I also checked the orange 12 v constant you are using and no problem there either. That unit does require 2 constants (blk w/ yellow maybe?) and one red switched. Fairly straight foward.

Just to explain to you guys how the RAP works, each unit on the databus has a constant wire and that is all that it has--no more switched wires as far as databus components are concerned. The databus sends signals to each unit telling it to turn on or off by means of that units internal relays. Some accessories such as windshield wipers are still "dumb" and thererfore require normal switches to be thrown to activate them; the ignition power sources for these types of accessories can be tied into normally where RAP is concerned.

Thanks kodiakz for all your great help and advice on this matter. I have retitled the thread to be more descriptive of the main issue we have been dealing with. This will now give our future 2003 owners a RAP tap off point to work with. (y)

Now... if only some person who has regular access to some 2003 fuse boxes can post a photo of the fusebox and the exact terminal we are talking about, then it will all be wrapped up. ;)

Kodiakz I can?t say thanks enough for your help

Unfortunately I still have the same problem I think my AV may be possessed so I put a call into the local Witch Doctor to release the demons but he?s on vacation for a month.
So I have to go it alone. (You know I?m kidding about the Witch Dr.)

I just recheck my wiring a 4th time and all is as you say it should be so this time I took pictures of the fuse box (per Skidd) but I don't know how to reduce the picture down to 100 kb to attach them.

Am I doing something wrong here?
:E:

If it helps, email me the pics and I will resize and post them for you (y)

masksav, I have not received an email from you could you please resend.

Thanks,

E

PM me if you have any questions

Could it be that there is a difference in the 2003 wiring from model to model? Surely not... Just thinking out aloud that if kodiakz is working on a Silverado that maybe it ain't exactly the same as an avalanche.... nah, GM is smarter than that... aren't they?

Nope, '03 Avy just like his. I will try to locate the wire that powers the wipers as they are on the RAP and I don't believe that they are "smart" Yet. I will post pics and locations as soon as I get them.

Still working on it for you. Wifey just came out and yelled at me so I must retire or be retired!! Will work on it more tomorrow for you.

OK, here are the pics of masksav's fusebox:
