rim width question?

i have a 02 cladded 4wd. i would like to add a 3" body lift (to my already installed level keys) to fit 20s with 33s. im not a huge fan of the deep dish look, but when scavenging through custom offsets website, seems like EVERYONE with level keys and a body lift runs 20x12 on 33s. i was hoping for 20x10s..or hell even x9s. is there a reason they run such a wide rim?

With My lift I went 17x9 with 35"x11.5" intercostal

well im wondering why most of them run x12s. i dont really like that look. if you run a x9 on 35s them.im assuming a 20x10 on 33s should be ok?

a 305 55 20 is equivalent of a 33 tire pretty much. Just a general idea of what it would look like on a 20x9
