Rolled Over Avalanche.

I'm really sorry BigRed.
The important thing is that everyone is ok.

So it sounds like everything is fixable? No chance of getting an '03?
Do you have any idea of the $ damage?

Take er easy Big guy ;)

On my Oregon Coast cruise there was a car accident that held up traffic for awhile, the road was wet also mabe it is just HWY 101

First off, Red, glad to see you're alright! I wouldn't wish that on anyone. That being said, I am impressed with the way it held up. I'm sure it has sheetmetal damage when you look up close, but it looks like everything stayed intact. That should make us all feel a little better. I am surprised that even the back panels stayed in place.

Eddie, I'm so glad you and your girl friend are OK.
I had a yucky feeling in the pit of my stomach :9: until I read you guys were all right. You scared me!

Eddie, You are so lucky buddy. Glad to hear everyone came out fine. Maybe an 03 is in your future. Keep posting your repair pic's so we can all see your progress.........Tractman

Sorry about the AV , but glad the both of you are alright.....

thank you, for all of your kind words. it's scary to think of the worst... but i'm ok. and i'm here to have my 18th birthday in just a short 3 days. not the best birthday gift, but it's something i will never forget. and gives me a new thanks on every good moment we get.

Ain't no doubt. From the looks of the photos, things could have turned out quite a bit differently. Autos can always be fixed or replaced. The gift of life is the best.

BigRed-
You are restoring my faith back with GM. That truck protected you very well.

I think the airbags only deploy when there is a direct hit in the area it comes from.

Hope you get her back soon,
Dino

Dude! I was just showing off BigRed to my co-workers today. Glad to hear you and your girlfriend only suffered minor bumps. Good luck in the restoration of BigReb. Keep us posted.

BigRed: Those are some scary and heartbreaking pictures.

I'm so sorry to hear of your excitment, and the damage to your truck. On the other hand, it's great to hear that you are both OK, and that the truck did a great job in protecting you.

Looking at the pictures, there is a remarkably small amount of visible damage. At a minimum I would've thought there would have been a distorted roof, broken windows, and rounded corners on the hood and fenders.

I hope they get your truck back to perfect health. It's sure going to be a long wait to get it back. How frustrating. :6:

yeah from those angles it looked ok too... but once you see the truck back on 4 wheels it's another story... for starters... all the side windows cracked or broke... now it takes alot of force and stress to do that, (i think). plus the nose and fenders are rounded off on the right side and some sail panel damage all around. i'll have those photos soon.

Glad both are in good health. Glad you were in an AV, the AV for sheer size is one of the best protection of any accident. In my case my AV was total and I got another one.

It doesn't look to be to difficult to fix your AV. Hope you will be up and running again. Keep us posted on your progress.

Again, thank God you were driving an AV!

Andrew

I'm glad you are alive and well dude. I had a similar experience one time in my old '88 Chevy. Fortunately I managed to keep all 4 wheels somewhat on the road. Minus the few seconds I was airborne sailing over that gully. I know its torn all the hell and back, but it almost looks like you could roll it back over and drive it home. Was their any obvious damage other than body damage?

Av's aren't cheap....but its easier to replace than you and your girl are.

They aren't kidding when they say "Like a rock!"

Again, I hope The best for the two of you. But good can come from this. I Will try to wait patiently to see what incarnation your AV comes back as >:D

IMHO the biggest thing in your favour was... youth!! After all 17 year old bones just bounce, they hardly ever break.

Seriuosly, I'm glad that every one is OK. Keep us updated with the fix it plans.

Big Red,

Sorry about your AV, but glad you all came out OK.

Down here in Orange County, the roads also get super slick after months without rain, and then a shower. ?The buildup of oil and fluids is like black ice, before it rains enough to wash it away. ?I was surprised how I was breaking loose the tires when I started up and sometimes when cornering. ?Then I remembered the "automatic" setting on the 4-wheel drive. ?I tried using it and it really made a big difference in traction. ?Don't know why, but it took me a couple of times sliding over several weeks before I thought to use it.

Now I flip the 4WD to auto. when it starts raining, until I'm sure the oil mess is gone and I've got good traction. ?Sorry its too late for you, but maybe this can save someone else from going through a similar experience.

Good luck on the repairs, things will get better!

Bigred,

I'm glad to hear you two are ok.

Were you guys wearing your seatbelts? I'm not a seatbelt freak but I do wear mine and I was just wondering.

Again, I'm glad you're ok.

Glad to hear you're okay. ?I was driving along 101 last Friday after the little drizzle (coming home from Half Moon Bay). ?There must have been 4-5 accidents within just a few miles of each other. ?I guess the roads out there get pretty slick after the first rain because of all the traffic.
EVERY, time it rains after a few dry days here is like the first snowstorm of the season back East. Unbelievable number of wrecks. Nothing personal Bigred, but they just don't seem to remember around here just how slick it gets when it rains. It is indeed like black ice! When you drive a pickup you have to do a lot more planning before you stomp on it to pull onto the freeway!

holy crap dude  ! Sorry about the situation BigRed, cool of you to put up the pix and share your experience with us, I am sure you have a million other things on your plate right now, so much better not to be in the hospital (I like the way the Av held up, all things considered).

As for being in a one-car accident that does biggie damage to a prized vehicle, most of us can commiserate with you if it makes you feel any better, I am willing to bet you have replayed the accident over and over in your mind. What did you bang your head on - side window, pillar, roof edge? (I knocked out a side window with my head once myself). As for the AB issue, fine by me if the front ABs don't go off in a non-frontal impact accident, but what the f@#%^ happened to those "curtain" ABs? should have kept your noggin from banging around, and your GF's too. That kinda bugs me . . .

Glad you are both basically ok, truck will get fixed or replaced, as time goes on that won't even bug you. (Take it from someone with a limp for life thanks to a one car back in 88 - I would have traded five totalled pride and joy Celicas for not having a permanent physical issue that reminds me every other step I take).

OMG ! ! !

I am very glad to hear that you both made it out relatively unscathed. You definately had your guardian angels along on this trip.

After looking at the photos you posted, it looks like there is very little damage to the AV. ?I was envisioning a crushed passanger compartment, smashed windshield, popped bed panels. Nope. ?It almost looks like it was carefully layed on its side in the brush.

I feel a lot safer riding in the AV than I had previously. I felt safe before but even more so now. I think one of those little mini-SUVs would have been crushed ilke a used candy wrapper.

BigRed, glad to hear you and your GF are doing well and were able to walk away from this accident. Good thing you were driving your AV it probably saved you and your GF from major injuries. The pics of your accident are overwhelming. I can't imagine my AV on its side like yours winded up.

Take care and keep your spirits up, you and your GF are not replacable, the AV is.

Miss Avalanche :B:
