Roof Rack On 2003 Av

I have a question about the factory installed roof rack on the 2003 Av. ???
I just picked mine up and noticed on the trip back home that the rack only had the side rails and no cross rails.
Does anyone know if they are a separate item on the 2003 model? They are listed on the sticker and build sheet as option V54 and described as a luggage rack.
It's unusable without the cross rails and I see that if you want to haul bikes, kayak etc. it requires that you purchase more specific parts from the dealer. :7:
Can somebody check their build sheet for me and let me know if the cross rails are separate with option V54? The place where I bought my Av doesn't sell many so I haven't called the dealer to inquire...yet.

Thanks

I am not sure I know on the 2003 suburban you do not get the cross rails unless you get the Cargo Package but the AV does not have a cargo package I would be checking at the dealership about this if I were you

I just picked up my new Av this past Thursday. My roof rack came with the cross bars, so I'd get your dealer to find them for you, they are supposed to be included.

Yup. It should have them. Let the dealer know ASAP. I would even leae them a voice message now to ensure they don't say they were stolen on your watch... ;)

Sounds like someone didn't follow up on the install. Don't let them tell you that you have to purchase them separately.

Thanks everyone for all your input. I called the dealer and he was excellent. He said the crossbars are an option on some GM vehicles but the rack isn't any good without them unless you are using other rack components ie: utility bars with bike rack etc. They are sending me a set of crossbars by courier tomorrow at no charge.
I personally think it was an oversight somewhere along the line and they should have been put on but the end result is the same...a satisfied customer. ;D

Good to hear about your dealer being so good but yes he was right on some GM trucks the cross bars are optional but on the AV it comes with the rack but hey you got them for free any ways that's all that maters

Glad they owned up to their mistake and sent them to ya. Make sure to show your thanks by doing all your regular maintenance there for at least a while. I've even had dealerships discount the price of future maintenance just because I'd been a "loyal customer".

They're here ;D
The crossrails showed up today as promised. Now I have to figure out how to put them on. I just got home from work and at a quick glance it looks like you have to remove one of the ends of the side rails and slide them on.
Anyone have any experience putting them on? :cautious:

Beaker,
When I ordered my Av, I just ordered the V54 option (described as Roof rack) and it came with the crossbars. There was never a mention of those being an option. Dealer must have forgotten to install them to the factory installed bars.

I took a look at all the AV's we have at the dealership (30 plus) and everyone has the crossbar's, this must have been a slip up at the factory. Glad you got it corrected ;)

Yeah you need to remove the end caps at the back is the best. I know it's a torx screw , but for the life of me I can't remember the size. Then slide the crossbars on. Remember to pull the locks up on the crossbars before sliding them on.

Thanks chevy03 and everyone else.
I followed your advice and installed them in about 15 minutes. The neighbors probably wondered what I was doing going from one side of the truck to the other adjusting them. :2:
Now my Av looks like it was supposed to.
chevy03 sounds like we almost have twin Avs.
Now I just have to quit staring at it and get some work done around here......
