I have a 2002 yukon xl parts truck. was wondering if the roof rack it has can be cut down and made to fit a 2002 avalanche? seems like.it can but wondering if anyone has tried this.

if so, next up is to find the well nuts and tool to drive them in

Just doing a word search for roof rack I found 8 pages of posts so you may want to try that for older posts with info and photos etc :

been reading for 2 hours. I know all about the inserts and bolts. my question is regarding if a suburban or yukon xl rack would fit if cut down.

I took it apart and placed it on mine and it seems like where it's placed on a suburban it's very stiff with no curve. but I think I can make it work.

just wondering if anyone else has tried it

*and I read that link too. drilling holes don't really bother me much lol.

I do not remember anyone doing that and reporting back as such.
IF it fits on the roof with a DRY fit and you like where it is... go for it...

NOt sure what would hold you back since that is pretty much how you installed them in 2002...
Put it together put on roof with a bunch of painters tape under feet thingys.
Align, square and then mark holes....
Remove and drill

yup think I'm going this route. I am going to drill new holes in the frames and move the mounting pads at least. I'm wondering if the stock ones curve the roof or are they straight like this one though.

I have these pictures off ebay for reference of where the stock mounts
