Just got a new 2500 4X4 Av two weeks ago. The day after I picked it up, still with only 80 miles on it, I read about the roof rack rust on this site and immediately went out to check mine. Sure enough, it was pretty ugly inder the door seals. Took it to the dealer last Thursday and they just called to tell me that they had to repaint the roof edge. We will see how it turns out.

Anybody else have theirs repainted? How did it turn out?

I had the same thing on mine. They did re-paint the channel behind the weather strip. It came out looking fine.
One thing you may want to look at closely is any residual rust everywhere else. I found some in the middle of the roof, bed panels, door hinges, and the sail. Make sure they go over it with a fine tooth comb, before you take it out of the shop. It sure is a dis-heartening feeling, but it gets better.

You may have to do a search, but there is a whole thread just on the roof rack and rust. :0:

I also vote for the sail area. Everyone focuses on the door seal area but that crack between the roof and the rear sail also gets drill chips when they blw it with an air gun INSTEAD of vacuuming.

What is the sail?

I define the sail as the plastic piece/s that begin at the back of the roof and go down the sides. Top sail is the top plastic piece with the 3rd stop light. Sail sides are the pieces with the triangular pieces cut out of them.
