I searched and couldn't find a definitive answer on this... where is the "correct" location to run wires through the firewall? After looking at my Av, I've decided that the location in the attached picture is the best, but I'd like some confirmation before I go drilling holes ;D

It appears the General left us a nice spot on the driver's side of the engine...

EDIT: Yes, indeed, this is the perfect location. Be sure to use a wire grommet!

The location that I and many others have used is a rubber boot above and slightly left of the brake pedal.
Sorry I don't have any pics, but it's not hard to find.
I have a 4 gauge running right from the battery, along the fuse box and down right through that pass-through to the back.

How many wires do you think you could route through there?
I'm installing an auxillary fuse box in the cab under the cupholders in my '03 center console. I plan on having 6 wires going into the cab (4 - 8 AWG and 2 - 14 AWG). The fuse block will have 3 different circuits, one that is always on, one that is on with the ignition (accessory), and one that is on with the parking/head lights. It'll be easy to access and a great spot to get power for any future interior mods.

When I built a power distribution box beneath the rear seat, I brought in heavy-gauge power cables through a factory grommet around the pedals on the floor. It took some fishing but was very suitable for this. You do not have to drill holes, either. I am running seven cables at the moment: power to the distribution box, four cables for strobes, siren/horn output, and ground. And I believe their are a couple other grommets in the area, if you need even more room.

Hope this helps and prevents unnecessary work. :)
