I truly hope the below story from Denver was not a club member.

A teenager died in an apparent DUI accident on C-470 near Lucent Blvd. early Tuesday morning.

According to the state patrol, around 2 a.m. a 2002 Chevy Avalanche was going the wrong way on westbound C-470 when it collided with a 2000 Mitsubishi head on. The driver of the Mitsubishi, an 18-year-old male, was killed instantly.

A passenger in the Mitsubishi and the driver and the passenger of the Avalanche were taken to the hospital. Two are in critical condition.

It is believed the driver of the Avalanche was under the influence of alcohol.

The westbound lanes of C-470 were closed and reopened around 6:20 a.m.

Wow! How Tragic . . . it better not be a member or I will personally go get him! Confess and take your punishment!!!

Very Tragic

I know the AV could make a pretty big hit on just about anything. 3 tons of steel doing highway speeds.... *me shutters*

You could be driving a Geo Metro for all I care--if you are under the influence of EtOH you could kill a lot of people.

An econobox with an impaired driver plowing into a bus stop with 20 people waiting will send a lot of body bags into the morgue.

Getting into a monster truck like an AV when obviously intoxicated is just asking for trouble.

When caught DUI, the license should not be taken away.
The vehicle should be confiscated, then auctioned off and proceeds given to victims.

Like taking a small piece of plastic laminated card will stop me from driving after leaving the bar.

Take the damn key and vehicle away!!!!!

spectron65, I totally agree with you. I bet if people know that they would loose there truck or car for driving drunk they might think twice.

I drove right by the accident this morning 4:30 a.m. (live a mile from the exit). I came to the same conclusion before reading Blueruck's description, in that someone was going the wrong way. The Mitsubishi was not even recognizable.

z-man.

Here is the updated story - this AV owner had to be loaded they were going the wrong way on an Interstate and there was two passangers who didn't notice either.

A teenager died in an apparent DUI accident on C-470 near Lucent Blvd. early Tuesday morning.

According to the state patrol, around 2:15 a.m. a 2002 Chevy Avalanche driven by Mark Bogacz, 31, of Littleton, was going the wrong way on westbound C-470 when it collided with a 2000 Mitsubishi head on. The driver of the Mitsubishi, an 18-year-old male from Highlands Ranch was killed instantly.

The accident happened at mile marker 18 between Broadway and Lucent Blvd. on C-470.

After the impact, the Avalanche spun into the center median and rolled one time, landing on its wheels. The Mitsubishi spun around two times on its wheels.

Two passengers in the Chevy Avalanche, Jason Weaver age 29 of Littleton and Kathlene Barnes age 26 of Commerce City were treated and released from Swedish Medical Center with minor injuries. Bogacz reportedly suffered a broken left leg. One passenger in the Mitsubishi, Phillip
Sena age 19 of Littleton was also transported to Swedish Medical and is listed in critical condition.

The name of the teenager has not been released.

It is believed the driver of the Avalanche was under the influence at the time of the crash. Charges are pending, awaiting toxicology test results for DUI.

The westbound lanes of C-470 were closed for about three hours and reopened around 6:20 a.m.

That's a very sad story. ?I'm not sure why I hadn't heard of this before now ????.

I'll have to go try to find a local news story about this wreck.

One or Two years ago, an eighteen year old woman was driving drunk, going the wrong way on I-55 in Arkansas. She hit a retired fire fighter head on, killing him. This was her second or third DUI, I think. She got two years, but only served 2 months. I think a person involved in a DUI death should receive the same as a person involed in a shooting death. Killing is killing, wether the weapon is a gun or a car.

This sort of thing really pi$$es me off. Just the other day my wife and I were heading home from her OB-GYN (new Av fan to arrive in October!). We were driving separately because I worked up to the appointment.

She was driving the Av a couple cars behind me. Another Av was on my right, just ahead of me. The guy completely swerved into the curb, then straightened out. I passed him and quickly realized why he swerved: the Jacka$$ was on the phone.

C'mon people. If you can't controll your vehicle, stay off the road. UGH!

*end soapbox*

In New York City if you get arrested for a DWI you get your car taken away. You do not get it back. It becomes instant property of the city. Even if you just bought it and owe many thousands of dollars on it. Tough!!!!!! You lost it. Where I live on Suffolk in Suffolk County it has to be your seconf offence to loose the vehicle.

WHo is that for crime and punishment!!!

The story was on the Denver Post web site.

Here's the story

I just made an interesting discovery. ?The name of the driver of the Av sounds very familiar to me and I almost positive I have seen/met this guy.

One day, my dad and I didn't have anything to do so we went out looking at new houses. ?We decided to go into the main office just to look at prices. ?There was a black North Face Av sitting right next to the office. ?(z-man, was this Av black?)

We walked into the office and he shouts out, "Hey, is that your Avalanche?" ?My dad says "yeah!" ?Then this guy says, "I should just give you the house for free for having an Av!" ?He gave my dad his business card (I bet my dad threw it away later on so I can't actually prove this was him). ?We had a little Av discussion. ?He was saying how much he loves his Av. He was just then getting to drive his Av because he supposedly hit a dear ?.

I wanted to tag him but to be honest, there was something that I REALLY didn't trust about him and I didn't think he would have a very good influence on the site so I opted not to. ?I would NOT be surprised if it was him who was under the influence of a lot of alcohol and caused that accident. ?He was friendly but extremely cocky.

So this is an interesting story. ?I am about 90% sure this was him who caused this accident....

such a tragic loss. At least the driver of the Mitsubishi appears to be killed instantly . And at 2:15 in the morning umm I would bet its DUI thats the time I do not want to be on the road, when all the drunks are leaving the bars. I dont know about Colorado, but the bars here close at 2am

Not much else to add . . . my sympathy and prayers go to the family that lost a loved one.

I totally agree with you there. I've actually thought for quite a while that a person who has already had two DUI convictions should be charged with attempted murder the next time they are caught driving under the influence. If you can't figure it out after being told twice, you just need to be put somewhere that you won't endanger others.
