Anyone else notice the NHSTA website scores, where they give the Av, Suburban, etc. poor ratings for crash saftey and very low ratings for rollover?

And, of course the Honda Pilot & Acura MDX both score highest of all. I wonder what would happen if a Acura MDX crashed head on into an Av or Suburban, or what it would take to roll a Suburban over? :8:

I have very little trust in the likes of the NHSTA and Consumer Reports.

Sounds like bull to me, if they think the AV doesn't do that well in a crash, they should see the pic's of the 40 car pile-up in NJ that the AV was the only vehicle to go home on it's own 4 wheels! :B:

Running an Avalanche into a brick wall versus running an Avalanche into a Honda Accord are two totally different animals. Case in point under the Avalanche stories section there is a news clipping of a Dodge Ram pickup that literally drove through an Avalanche. The Dodge Ram was split in half, but the driver survived. The Avalanche exploded and both inside were killed. The weak roll over rating is what surprised me. However the roll over rating is not devised by test but by probability and mathmatics and most in the auto industry consider the ratings pretty darn useless.

GM has never done terribly well in the crash tests. Actually, poor crash test performance (and the supporting photos) was one of the reasons I got rid of my Pontiac Montana.

I'm not sure I agree with the roll over ratings. I was damn near roll'n over this past weekend. Driving on the highway in a snow storm. Doing about 60 Mph (honstly this time) when I was changing lanes I hit a drift, and it sent the back end of my AV sideways. I let off the Accelator and let it slow down by itself. The back end came back around the other way, and eventually snapped back into place. I thought I was going to be upside down for sure. Everyhting worked out....for me at least. I had a little angel on my shoulder this time.

I beleive that some time ago it was mentioned in the media that the rollover ratings were based on a mathematical formula, not real life incidents.
As far as crashworthyness goes, it has been proven by organizations such as the NHTSA that bigger vehicles have better survivability than do smaller vehicles. We have Sir Issac Newton to thank for making that discovery about mass.
Take everything with a grain of salt.

Look at bigred's Avalanche. There was damage. But I don't think it was that bad. A Honda civic would be road kill
