Sail Panel Plexi-glass Window

Got_Change has some sail panel windows as well. You could probably private message him and he might mail you a template. Hey Got_Change! Can you make me a template and bring it with you when you come through Columbia?

Wiki,

I manafactured and installed the Got Change sail windows in my AV yesterday. The 1/8 inch, dark smoked plexi glass (enough to make four) cost a whopping $5.18.

I traced the template I made from GC's drawing on the plexi. I put down three layers of masking tape on top of the line to act as a heat sink (WOOD Mag. tip). I traced the template again, set the scroll saw to appx 1000 spm and made the cut.

I fine trimmed the plexi with a sanding drum on my Dremel tool, and included a slight bevel. A sanding block assisted too.

Once done, peel the paper off, wash with Dawn, apply tape on the three sides, attach to cleaned sail from inside the bed. I then applied tape on the outerside in three places.

I found Dark Bronze silicone at Home Depot and "caulked" in four places. Let dry about two hours, removed inner tape and complete the "caulking". Let dry overnight and SHAZAM!!! The AV looks even better. And BIGGER too!!!

Many Mahalos to GC for the plan and guidance!

Would post photos, but I do not own a Digital Camera.

Aloha,
Murman

What about the exhaust??? Did you do this yourself? If so, how about instructions........

I met up with Got_Change and bought some sail panel windows. Yes, I know, its not the same as making them yourself, but its still a mod in my books. They look great. Now I have a place for my club decal, WHICH STILL HASNT COME IN YET IN OVER 1 MONTH!!! Did I say that out loud?

chip, thanks for the e-mail, here was my first post on the sail panel windows, about 8 months ago!

Very cool mod got change.

I have enough 1/8 inche plexiglass sparepieces left I could easily do this mod.

Unfortunately, I need those "holes" in the sail panels--because I have so many Plexiglass spare rear windows and some of them need to be "pushed" a little bit so I can pop them out. My arm goes through these holes as I am standing by inside the cab to catch my Plexi windows---without the holes, I would have to walk all the way around the sail panel and reach into the cargo panel and push the window out.

Still a cool mod (y)

Its amazing what you can do with Plexiglass.

check the mod section and search for SAIL PANEL....it will come up in several threads

Yup Mike makes them but he is currently having problems with his production company. He told me last night that he might have to find another company to make them.

DS,
Anyone heard from him lately, I had the same question wanted to get some in for some time now, Was curious if he was alright or just busy as usual??

I like the price he had, much better on my wallet ;D ;D

Hoss,

I sent him an email on Friday (9/19/03) and he responded immediately. He said that he was having problems with the manufacturing company and would most likely have to find someone else to produce the sail windows. They are others in this club that make the sail windows but I like Mikes, so I will wait until works all his problems out.
