Been waiting for something like this for a long time, I am thinking I will do in about two years, by then the prices should have dropped, and the bugs worked out.
One of the main points of Sirius radio's plan versus that of XM Radio was the they had the extra bandwidth to handle video feed. This would have meant, and could still possibly depending what the future holds for them, that they were going to include video conferencing and pay-per-view channels into the service, and had talked of adding regular channels also.
Unfortunately, it is as big as it looks!! No problem if you never plan on using your racks again. My rep brought one by yesterday and that was my first thought. It is pretty cool, and does come with the necessary satellite receiver as well. If anyone ever REALLY wants one of these, drop me a pm and I'll see what kind of price I can get for you
They rolled this out at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last January. The antenna is kinda' big. It has gyro-stabilized parabolic collectors that keep the satellite tracked within one degree as you turn the corner. This has been used on yachts and cruise ships for years. They worked out the bugs in it with a pitching and rolling boat. It will eventually have a smaller array, that will be less than the current 4 1/2 inches thick. The demonstration I saw worked pretty cool. I don't see myself as a car-seat potato, but some might have a use for it, eg: truck drivers, trains, tour busses, etc...
I would rather have voice controlled high-speed internet, automatic cuppacino maker, built-in back massager, and a nano-probe fuel cell. Oh, an autopilot so I could take a nap while in a traffic jam in Los Angeles would be kinda' handy too.
I have them in stock!!! From KVH starting at 2999.99 installed. Who will be the first at the Falls GTG with it. I think I have to many satellites looking at my truck with Nav,XM, and Sirius. I think someone is always watching me, And it's not the man up there.
