I am not sure how many of you park your AV outside or inside a garage.

If your garage is anything like mine, it is a very tight fit and I was really afraid of running into the wall.

Once I got it in, I found that I had approximately 12 inches of clearance.

There are a variety of different parking aids but none of them seem to be very effective. I personally like the braille method. I know I am parked when I hit something. Hopefully it is not the wall of the garage.

To make a long story short, I wanted to come up with something that would make parking this beast easier and ensure that I will not damage the garage or AV.

Let the pictures do the talking.

my brother-in-law had a tight fit garage once. the 2 of use figured out a tennis ball method.

simple take a tennis ball, attach it to a string. pull the vehicle in to the desired space. dangle the ball & let it hit the windshield then tack the string to the celling.

when you pull into the garage stop when the tennis ball hits the windshield & wa-la, you are parked in the correct spot.

I always placed my vehicles then hung a tennis ball by a string from the celing. When the windshield hits the perfectly placed tennis ball. I'm good.

I got one of those too but it scared me if you overrun the ball. With the flag, I am looking straight ahead and if the flag touch the wall, I am have overrun the stop point. No doubt the ball is a simpler method but with only 12 inches to spare, the flag lets me know how hard I hit it. When you get older the reflexs don't respond that well anymore.

I have about eight inches to spare! I Hung a 2x4 vertically on the wall and wrapped it with foam and I pull into the garage real carefully right up to it and have not had any problems.

I have 3 inches to spare in the garage. I have a 4 x 4 piece of wood on the floor and it's served me well.

:B: :B:

Maybe you could wire up that flag with a touch switch so it turns the garage lights on, shuts the door, walks the dog, catapults out the garbage, and triggers the microwave.............what a mod that would make >:D

Great Idea!

That is the KISS principle at its finest. Very nice work!!!!

Simple, affordable, and even those who are mechanically inclined should have no problem doing that.

Instead of the tennis ball I use a fishing bobber, its easier to adjust (push the button and slide up or down). I also use two for my wifes minivan. Our garage is 24 feet deep so one gets the van in with two feet at the back. The secons one gets it in with 4 or 5 feet at the back so we can open the rear hatch with the garage door closed.

Great idea! Now I can patch the hole in the wall.

Cool Garage Mod I park my AV under a carport (AVport).

Yes try the tennis ball idea. You can tie it to your door via a pulley, so when the door goes down the ball goes up, and when you open the door the ball is right where ever you hang it to meet your windshield. Perfect park every time. The Park Zones are greeat, but the tennis ball is the Poooooor mans approach the safely parking in your garage.

Flag is a great idea, only problem with my garage is that I need to actually touch the front wall. My AV will not allow the garage door to close if I leave the hitch in. Now THAT'S tight. :)

I have to basically touch the wall to fit my truck in the Garage. Here is what I came up with. First I got some rubber floor matting. I hung that on the wall and folded it over to double it up where the bumper actually touches the wall. Then I parked the truck lined it up and made a Line with Black Electrical Tape exactly where my Bug Shield line is. So as soon as the black line is parallel with the bug shield I'm there. Then as a final precaution I used Liquid nails and put down 4 Cement flat blocks on the garage floor. So now I could Fly into the garage as soon as the black line gets close to the bug Shield I start slowing down. Then my Tires hit the Cement Blocks and the truck stops. Its fool proof even after a couple beers?.. >:D

Great idea, HQ. I have been using a length of 4x4 positioned in front of a front tire as a stop, but I think I like your idea better.
