I was working on my intake when i took a look at the headers. It seems to me that they could be changed without removing the engine or front differential.

Is a header change a doable as a driveway mod?

-Rob

some headers are drop in.....shortys they should be easy and some have posted about it...they said easier with lift but can be done in driveway....

Long headers wioll require welding and cutting of exhaust....

check the header threads.....HTH

Shorties are cake!! Did mine in about 2 hrs in the shop (did use an air tool or 2). You could easily do in your driveway with a good socket/open end wrench set.

The stock manifolds are held on with 10mm bolts and there is plenty of room to work under the hood (try doing headers in a Corvette or Camaro ). Shorty headers are an easy bolt-on while a lift is recommended for long tubes. That makes it easier to cut/weld as needed.

shorties are well short and their collector bolts up to stock pipes...

Long tubes are much longer and you have to cut off stock pip flange and re weld one.....

Are the Edlebrocks SHorty type? I was told that the Edlebrocks are a PITA to install yourself. Then again this was said by the guy who wants me to pay 800 for the part and install.

I think edelbrock makes both shorties and long tube

Surge:

Edelbrock does make both shorties and long-tube, they call their long-tube the TES system. It includes a new y-pipe. I believe they have this out for the full-size trucks now. I had a TES on my 94 Sonoma and liked it. The y-pipe was much larger than stock.

I don't know how the TES would work on our trucks because of the position of the cats. Seems to me it would have to be something like the Supermax system, with new cats.

i want some. either one.

Isn't anybody going to mention the SuperMaxx headers? I just bought a set (don't have them on yet) and couldn't be happier with the quality of the kit. My understanding is that there is no welding required with these as they were designed to completely replace the stock headers/y-pipe/cats and mate right up to the stock exhaust. Plus, they are 300 series stainless steel! Certainly not cheap but I thought they were worth the extra money.

I'm running the Supermaxx. The install is pretty easy, all nuts and bolts. No cutting or welding. Only a problem for those in Cal. or carb. wannabee states.
