Service 4wd

I have a 03 Z71 AV with about 3500 miles. I have a service 4wd notice on the display. I have made an appointment with service, but would like to know what the deal is. Has anyone had this and got it fixed?

Gabe

Yes. not on my AV but my '01 Tahoe. Faulty 4wd switch in dash. Very well documented problem. Warranty.

At least that was mine...hope yours is as simple...

I'm guessing the 4wd feature of our trucks is very sensitive. I just posted a thread on the prob and questions area in response to my 02 AV w/ a blown front differential. Not bad since it saw 4wd 1x last december and never had a problem or noise after that until around 3 days ago. I didn't see any TSBs on this as a problem. Questions and no answers.........

Well, I knew about the problem and scheduled a service visist today. Sewell Cadillac in New Orleans had my vehcile for 6 hours only to tell me it was the switch and the part was not in stock. I was a little mad as we had a scheduled service call and they didn't have the most likely part that failed. Then they couldn't get it for the next day, finally I just hung up and told them to call me when they get the part. They seem to be in no hurry as the vehicle operates fine in 2WD. What should I do?

Like I had mentioned earlier, very common problem with these trucks. My dealer out here stocks them because so many go bad out here. If you are handy, order the part from gmpartsdirect.com and do it yourself. But a good dealer should take care of you immediately.

escalate it or try another dealer

They finally fixed the problem today. I made them steal from another truck. They had a very difficult time finding the part and some that helped with forcing to steal from another truck.

Glad they fixed it GABE...now sign up for the new orleans cruise club.....Check the cruise page >:D

??? You should use the 4wd on the trans at least once a week, not only to make sure you have it when needed, but to move the fluids and excercise the transfer case---Just a few miles is adequate--not turning corners on pavement or good traction surface!

Turning corners with good traction surface, could damage the 4wd system as you will notice a chatter,or grabbing--meant for slippery surface only---use awd in this case and it will take care of itself!

There is another thread about the blown diff, but it is suspension making a thumping noise. ?Anyway it looks like there is a faulty design with the front diff, mine is right now in the shop getting fixed! ?The Mech said that 2002 Av's and Sub Tahoes and such are all having it! A design flaw, they are getting ready to release a TSB on it! ?They fixed it in the 2003's. So they are retro fitting it to 2002's! ?
