I got some coupons in the mail as a result of my less-than-stellar first experience with a my local service department (although, everyone probalby gets them). It's for the "usual" stuff and starts out with something like:
we notice that it should be about time for your manufacturer-recommended scheduled maintenance at 3k miles.
Now, I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but I can read. The service manual that came with my Avalanche, page 6-5, instructs to change the oil (and lubricate chasis) when the oil life system dictates (1st change and "old-school" opinions not withstanding
), and then the first scheduled maintenance listed is at 7,500 miles.
Am I misreading something? If not, is this ethical for the service department to blatently contradict the manufacturer? Is it false advertising at the very least? Perhaps I should ask them for their complete printout of what they think constitutes "recommended service" for my truck. What do you all think?
