"Service Park Assist" message. Please help

Park assist was working great since I put the new sensor in. No "service park assist" message.

Until yesterday.... now I get "park assist off" when I put the truck in drive or reverse.

Actually, now that I am typing this I put my trailer hitch ball in the receiver on saturday but didn't drive it until sunday.... would that be causing this message on the dash?  :E:

definitely

Yep, right on guys. Having the ball in the hitch turns off my park assist. Good to know because I was worried my sh!t was broke again!  :help:

So happy   (y)

Somewhat related to this topic......Seems that the message and how it is activated may be year dependent.

In my '07 the 'Park assist off" message is displayed in the DIC and the red "brake" light in the dash is "on" in all gears if the Parking Brake is engaged....once the parking brake is released the "park assist off" disappears and the odometer is returned.........sometimes if the parking brake was put on lightly, the red brake light goes out but the "park assist off" remains and the rear sensors are disengaged. The solution is to apply the parking brake firmly and pop it off quickly and both then go out......evidently the electrical switch on the parking brake has more than one contact......one for the park assist and one for the parking brake warning light........in my case one of the contact release springs may be sluggish.......not worth it to replace it.

A different setup in my '12 altogether......never see the "park assist off" in the DIC in any gear even if the parking brake is on.

My alternative to paying the dealer's $99 diagnostic fee to tell me which sensor is bad:  I purchased a set of four cheap chinese knock offs. OE# 25961321 from an ebay seller $60 with free shipping.  I've installed them all and this has caused the "service park assist" message to go out.  Later, when the weather breaks, I'll go back and reinstall each of my suspect sensors, one at a time to isolate the bad ones.

What really grinds my gears is that there seems to be no way to troubleshoot the system on your own without a Tech2 scanner. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

A big thank you goes out to all that have suggested checking the parking brake switch, ohming out the sensors, and the car wash soap interference (been there/done that)

True, the dealer diagnostic price is so expensive as are the sensors from the dealer ($200+ each), when you can buy them for $20-$30 off ebay and just change them out with no dealer involved.

I reset my aftermarket head unit and have had the serve park assist message immediately after and for the past 6 months lol how car I get them to work again. It's a rosen nav unit that was installed by the previous owner.

two switches on the parking brake HUH guess that the next thing to look at .

well I can only find one switch / wire light blue in color any one know what color the wire is for the back up assist on the parking brake

I know this is an old post, but I just received the error message yesterday after I washed the AV
