I've done a search on this here and Google and can't find a clear answer so hopefully someone can help me.

I am about to take my Av on a long trip, 3,000+ miles, and know that the differentials, transfer and transmission haven't been serviced, other than the first service recommended by Chevy and fluid level checked.

I have an '02 Z71 with about 55,000 miles on it. It has never been offroad but I use it to tow two Harley's often, and my uncle (the original owner) often used it to tow heavy tractors.

When should these (diffs, trans, and transfer) services be done? I called two tranny shops, both gave me an estimate of $475 and my local Chevy dealer which was $425 for the "4 wheel drive service plus tranny flush". This sounds steep to me but still cheaper than repairing them.

**edit**
I'm sure it's in the owners manual, I just don't have one.

Online owners manual in resource section...

I would normally do transmission at 60K.  Differentials around 75K.  Yours, however, seems to have had more severe service early.  If those services haven't been done, I'd bite the bullet and do them now.

So I ended up taking it to the dealer and had both diff's and the transfer case oil changed. I had a transmission flush, a new fuel filter, throttle body cleaned and a new pvc. I'm not sure which of these made the difference but it runs so much better now. I didn't even really know that it wasn't running that great until I picked it up.

Glad to hear you took the AV in for the service.
It will be a lot cheaper to have the service done than it would be to replace a Tranny!!  Not to mention, you will get better gas milage now!!
