Shift cable

Hello. I recently bought a 2004 Chevy Avalanche and I’m really happy I found this board as it’s filled with a bunch of useful information. I recently killed my Av however ): I was in the bottom gear and accidentally turned the key which shut off the truck as I was pulling apart the dash. After that, the truck wouldn’t turn back on and it rolled while the vehicle was suppose to be in park. I’ve done a ton of research and everywhere leads to it being the shift cable. My cluster gauge doesn’t work at all (I think it’s a blown fuse) so I can’t physically see if it’s in another gear. Could anyone confirm it’s the shift cable with what I’ve told you? I plan on doing the maintenance myself.

I had my transmission rebuilt on my 2004 EXT back in 2012.

Somehow the tech had tweaked the shift cable and broke it near the mounting point at the transmission.

I noticed it when I tried to shift into Park and the transmission stayed in gear.

I drove it back to the shop and they replaced the cable.

It's been fine ever since.
