A few months back I was driving my wifes Avalanche and noticed a strange feeling in the steering wheel.
It is an '08 LT 4x4 with the 20" factory wheels and bridgstone tires.
The truck has about 15,000 miles on it, no issues, no offroad use, hardly any dirt road driving either.
The steering wheel gives a shake, shimmy, or shudder when driving over a mild bump, or expansion joint at almost any speed.
It rides very smoothly at all speeds on smooth roads, doesn't shake while breaking etc.
Steering is straight and true.
She dropped it off at the dealership this morning.
They called and told her there is nothing wrong with the truck, but they recommend an allignment, rotate and balance the tires.
I called them back to explain that I didn't think it was an aligment issue.
After some discussion I told the service guy that I would like him to actually drive it and I would come down to go on the test drive with him.
After he drove it, he agreed that it didn't feel right.
They put it back up on the lift, did some kind of suspension test to check the struts and called me back to tell me that they wouldn't do anything further unless I pay $115 for front alignment, tire rotation, and tire balance.
Is there a known issue with this?
Does it sound like a problem that would be caused by an aligment? Especially considering the truck drives straight, and smooth on smooth roads?
We also had a 2007 4x4 LT with the 17" wheels. After 2 years and 36000 miles, and plent of off roading on the farm we used to live on, that truck didn't feel like a crappy old truck from the 70s.
