Are yours actually bolts? Mine have the phillips head but are really just plastic push in "bolts". I was actually rather disappointed when I discovered how those panels were held on.

My Av has the torx heads. Kinda strange thing to "fix". Happened between 07/2001 when mine was built and the end of the year.

i didnt take them appart but i will soon just to see...
because we just orders the sports wing so we will be messing around up there

The early design had 6mm "Torx" pan head bolts and nuts. This was done mostly for appearance (look cool and match the roof attachments). After the Escalade EXT was done with hidden plastic clips, the design was revised to the plastic "scrivets" with phillips heads. The attachments are only to hold the edges of the inner and outer sail panels together for a tight fit at the edges. Tightening the original bolts actually had a tendency to make this gap uneven.

06-01 build date and torx screws on mine - finally something good came from being an early adotper. (Of course, ALL of us 02's can claim superiority to the 03's - just ask them to show you their under-hood light! >:D )

I likes how yus speaks.....are ya a GM engineer?

For reasons beyond my control, I cannot either confirm or deny that... ;) However, if I can help shed light on a question like this fastener one, then I can't resist. I will say that beyond that bias, I really do love my 2002 Avalanche. Oops, I mean no comment. Let's leave it at that.
