Side View Mirror Bulb Swap...

strobin avalanche, i guess, ill just go ahead, and slip in another mod, the puddle light mod, since you showed how to do it!!

glad to see you are still lighting up, with the park light mod. ever notice the road signs ,amber glow??

anyone think of just painting the lense cover???maybe from inside also a possibility?? just an idea...i'll let ya know how it turnes out...
 
I know Pep Boys sells the lights for about $3-4. I've been wanting to make something brighter out of that area but had no ideas. I think I'll try a red lens, or GREEN to match my Av.
 
forget the 3 or 4 bucks for bulb's....take out lense cover and use your color of a sharpie...thank's again terrell owens...and walla red.....looks great....just thought i would pass it along....
 
I saw LED's on sale that fit right in the housing they were on sale on EBAY. Got_Change you are going to watch me??? Well I'll watch you too. You've givin me some good ideas and I've givin you one. Hell yeah I notice the amber more on the signs. I kinda tried to change them back one day and I broke the bulbs and had to make a run to Pep Boys and pick up some bulbs LOL. To State The Fact For The Puddle Light Mod I DID NOT CHANGE THE BULBS. I just slid a sleeve over them. total cost of mod: no more than $2
 
Tried the sleeves, then tried the Blue LEDs. LEDs are much deeper in color. They rock!. ?The guy that has them on ebay is a little spendy. If you want LED bulbs at a decent price try http://www.superbrightleds.com/. They have the little tube style light thingy, plus the 194s I used in my cluster and doors.
 
Now, Some of you have purchased the LED festoon bulbs, but can't get them to work. Here it goes:

1. Remove old bulb, and pinch together the electrical contacts on either side.
2. position new festoon LED bulb so it kind of sandwiches in between the contacts. It will not seat light original bulb due to it being shorter.
3. Mine have been in without a problem for 4 months now, and look GREAT!
4. Be carefull, these are polarized. Positive must go to positive. The bulbs are not marked, so try each way till it lights. If you get it in the housing, and it is in wrong, just swap the wires.

I'm starting this but I have one F-ing screw that won't move.

I'm sooo close to stripping the head. should i try WD40?
other ideas?


 
My 2003 has a "perimeter lighting" setting in the DIC. ?When I unlock the AV with my remote, my DRLs, puddle lamps and reverse lamps light up to show me the area all arount it. ?My first mod was to convert the DRL's to amber. ?I was thinking about converting the puddle lamps to amber as well. ?Looking at the festoon LED selection it appears that they do not come in amber.

Since I don't want the AV to look like Las Vegas on wheels, I may either:

1) Go with amber gels on the existing lamps
2) Go with white LEDs and leave it at that
3) Go with the LEDs with amber gels

How bad is an LED with a gel? ?Anyone know?
 
Is this the correct bulb? 3022 LED Festoon bulb from superbrightleds.com for the mirror bulb swap.

If this is correct, can they also be used in replacement of the dome lights?

Yes . . . I just went out to the AV and put the 3022 LED Festoon's (blue) in my domelights and they work.
 
Shame I didn't see this thread when it first started. Changing out the bulbs to red was one of the first mods I did when I got my truck... I also changed out the liscencs plate lights to red too (yes illegal I know) And a few other here and there... I forgot what bulb I used But I can go get a photo.
